Hammersmith
Day 1 is mostly finished. There's currently a suspension of play for dangerous conditions(lightning?), but most of the field is finished. Both Crystal and Amy are among those done for the day. Amy shot a 73(+2) to currently tie for 46th, while Crystal shot a 74(+3) and is tied for 57th. The leader is sitting at -5, and the top 64 golfers at the end of the second round tomorrow will advance to the match play stage.
Hammersmith
There is still a whole lotta golf to be played yet today, but it's looking good for Amy and bad for Crystal. Amy shot even par today to stay at +2, but Crystal dropped another 3 back to end at +6. At the moment, Amy is tied for 29th and Crystal is tied for 76th. The top 64 will advance, so it looks like Amy will make it but Crystal won't.

She's currently in 64th place, but many others are still on the course and are more likely to decline than advance. She'll likely have a very difficult opponent in the first round of match play, but anything can happen - and just making the cut is a huge accomplishment! Hammersmith
Both Summit matches went to the very end. Amy won and Crystal lost; both by 1-up. Amy plays tomorrow morning at 8:30 versus the woman who beat Crystal. If Amy advances to the round of 16, she will play again tomorrow afternoon with coverage on the Golf Channel starting again at 2:00. Wish Crystal could've managed the upset(she was facing the #3); it would've been great to see an all Summit matchup in the round of 32. theeagleman5
Great effort by Crystal against the #3 seed....she had her best round of the week and gained some valuable experience for next year....
Hammersmith
Well, Amy falls to the same player that slew Crystal and in the same way(1 up). I suppose the silver lining(besides the experience) is that Moriya Jutanugarn has beaten her round of 16 opponent to advance to the round of eight tomorrow morning. If she contines to win, at least Crystal and Amy will be in good company.
Guest
We've been watching and are proud of her and glad she goes to ORU. The first thing we noticed yesterday was that most players were wearing caps from their alma mater. Crystal was wearing a Titleist. If they were a sponsor, I could get it. Since they aren't, wouldn't it be nice if she recognized the university that gave her a scholarship? Just thinkin.....
theeagleman5
Is an amateur allowed to wear the hat of a "sponsor"?....would love to hear why Crystal wasn't wearing an ORU hat.....

Logic seems to tell me that she would no longer be an amateur? I am old & blonde thought

Golfdad
they got many shots of her wearing ORUGear, and many of big logo on her bag. Many players actually wore Rhode Island Cc hats. Crystal spoke very proudly of her school all week as people asked what ORU stood for. Thanks for following her!

Golfdad
You have shown that support from day one, and we appreciate it very much. Of course we have no control of what camera shots they air, but all week the camera guys were right there, and zooming in on Crystal's bag with the ORU logo and the scripture she had laminated, hanging right next to it. Isaiah 41:10 . I thought for sure, they would show that, with them filming it so much. The USGA officials told her Mother and I that she was a true light among all the players they have met over the years. They also surprised her at one of the banquets, and had her come up and sing one of the songs she has written. If Mike Carter, Dr. Rutland, and the rest of the ORU faithful could have seen her behind the scenes at this Championship..... they would be the first to say that is a kid you want representing ORU. Thanks again to all of you on the board who have been so supportive! See you at BBall to support Kevi, and the rest of our awesome team!
