National Top 144 Preview

Old Titan

Recommended Posts

Our old buddy Joel Welser has already started his "Top 144 Preview" of D-1 basketball teams, albeit for a new website this season.

Joel does a nice job on this annual project, and it's a good way to get acquainted with the better opponents on our schedule.

Here are some teams of interest he has profiled so far:

#131 - Valparaiso

#117 - Austin Peay

#114 - IUPUI

Joel has IUPUI #3 in the league - I'm guessing he will have Oakland around #100, with ORU around #90.

ORU should have one of our highest rated schedules in years.....hard to believe games are still over 100 days away.....TheEagleman can't wait for fall especially with temps over 100 today in the Philly area....should be interesting to see how IUPUI looks without old Ron Hunter this season..... :ugeek:

Whenever a team of interest to ORU fans is profiled, I post it.

Here's a link to the entire list - the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee check in today at #109:

Oklahoma comes in at #101 - ORU visits Norman for the second year in a row to battle the Sooners, on Thursday, December 8th:

#101 - Oklahoma Sooners

ORU jumped out to a big lead last year at the Lloyd Noble Center, before Jeff Capel switched to a trapping zone defense that gave us fits. The Sooners were also a lot more physical when it counted.

If new OU coach Lon Kruger is a strictly man-to-man defense guy, and our guys have grown any stronger, we might have a decent chance to beat the Sooners for the first time in three decades.

Who knows....maybe ORU has a shot to beat OU, OSU and TU all in the same year....could happen....what would the Oklahoma sports media do?....YIKES!.... :*

They are down to #94(Georgia) and still no mention of ORU....could it be that we are not even in the Top 144?.....hard to believe.....

Not to worry: IUPUI was touted as 3rd place in the Summit League in the preview; Oakland as 2nd place.

Unless they're going to spring one of the Dakota schools on us at 1st place, then we're it - whenever that may be.

Heck....If ORU is in the Top 93.....that's not too shabby.....TheEagleman expects us to move into the AP Top 25 when we start the season with a win at WVU and then take the Pre-Season NIT Championship at MSG in NYC....

The Akron Zips (ORU opponent) check in at #90 so that means that we are gonna be somewhere in the 80's....that even surprises TheEagleman....I thought along with OT that ORU would be in the 92-99 range.....this guy must really like us....or maybe he has seen summer practices at the Aerobic Center?..... :ugeek:

Akron an "ORU opponent"?

Are you perhaps thinking of Xavier, or Austin Peay?

Because our schedule is simply lacking any Zips this year...
