theeagleman5
TheEagleman has mixed feelings over the USA-Slovenia game yesterday....difficult to swallow the ref's blunder that cost us a win but considering came back from 2 goals down to get a tie in the 82nd minute, I can't be totally disappointed...The USA was minutes from basically being eliminated....this is a strange team...why do they always seem to get off to bad starts in these World Cup games?....obviously, that cannot happen vs. Algeria next Wednesday...a win is mandatory or we are likely headed home.....England has to be devastated only getting a draw with the Algerians.....Slovenia will be no picnic for them.....that's a very underrated team there....Slovenia is a team that eliminated the Czechs and the Russians...no small task there.....next week will be interesting....not sure what to expect from Group C....All TheEagleman knows is that the USA needs to play impressively and win...we can still win our Group.....Germany's stunning loss hard to figure....didn't see that one coming..... theeagleman5
Yes....in soccer, a tie is not like kissing your sister...in some cases, it can be like kissing Heather Locklear....
theeagleman5
Bye Bye Cameroon and Australia....interesting how even if the USA wins their group, we could end up playing Germany....might be better off if the Americans finish 2nd if Ghana ties with the Germans and gets to top seed in the next round...still, both of those teams would be tough for us....Ghana is very good....Germans are so dangerous despite that stinker vs. Serbia the other day......anything still could happen....just hoping the USA can beat Algeria and advance....if they don't at least get to the round of 16...coach Bradley is history.....hopefully our guys are buoyed by that good 2nd half vs. Slovenia.... theeagleman5
Paraguay has pretty much nailed down a 2nd round spot with an early win this morning over Slovakia....Italy can do the same today vs. New Zealand and TheEagleman expects the Italians to win....The game of the day should be Ivory Coast vs. Brazil this afternoon...I expect an entertaining match.... theeagleman5
Impressive performance by Brazil this afternoon beating Ivory Coast easily....they could be the team to beat right now....another disappointing performance by Italia today....hard to believe they couldn't take lowly New Zealand....this is typical for the Italians...they just skate thru in the first round and don't seem to get motivated until the knockout stage....but now they are faced with a must win vs. Slovakia next week....the Blue Shirts usually play well when their backs are against the wall.... Italy plays minimalist soccer, just as you said, Eagleman. Do only what you have too and don't risk losing! Kook for them to win when their back is against the wall. I expect Germany to beat Ghana as well, but Serbia could still be the second team going with a win against Australia.
vcboy2000
The U.S. controls their own destiny. Win=Making it to the Knock-Out Round. That's where the "big boys" play. Would love to see how far the US could make it in a scenario like that. Could be monumental.
theeagleman5
Yeah....The USA needs to come out charging vs. Algeria....the first goal is huge....if we fall behind, they will close it up and try to milk the clock....Algeria could still advance but they must win....USA needs to smoke these guys.....Portugal very impressive today...also Chile is undefeated beating Switzerland and Honduras...the Spain-Chile game will be huge...Spain could get knocked out....but TheEagleman doesn't expect it...... vcboy2000
They did it! U.S. wins the group and advances to the knock out stage. The games played at 1:30 today will decide who they'll play in the first game this weekend. Chances are we will be playing Serbia. Ghana and Germany battle it out with Germany needing to win to advance. Ghana will be a tough out, but my vote says that Germany will come on strong to win the group and play England in the 1st game of Round 2. theeagleman5
TheEagleman was fortunate to catch the exciting final 5-6 minutes of the game at work in the cafeteria which erupted when the Americans got the winning goal in injury time....big goal by Landon Donovan but the key on that play was the outstanding outlet pass by goalie Tim Howard who hit Donovan in stride to lead a 4 on 2 break....what a win for the USA!...we were 3 minutes from going home empty handed again and now have a decent shot to win a second round game vs. Ghana....a team we can certainly beat and have a revenge motive since they whipped the USA in the 2006 World Cup....England very lucky to move thru and Slovenia suffers heartbreak when the Americans scored....they have themselves to blame...a tie vs. England would have moved them thru to play Germany....now it will be England and the Germans which should be a cracking match....Mexico vs. Argentia also interesting....this tournament is just starting to get interesting... theeagleman5
Arrivederci, Italia....and good riddance.....what a bunch of pansies they are....have you ever seen them play to win....they always seem to just play for a tie and hope they get a lucky break....sorry, boys...your conservative counterattacking style cost you at the 2010 World Cup.....who would have thought that Paraguay and Slovakia go on from that Group and mighty Italy finishes in last place.....TheEagleman is pleased that France and Italy are headed home....would have been the perfect dream had Mexico joined them....soon.....very soon.... theeagleman5
Spain and Chile sneak in today along with Brazil and Portugal....big game tomorrow perhaps the most important game in USA soccer history....if we can beat Ghana, we move to the quarterfinals vs. the Uruguay/So. Korea victor....should be exciting....USA!...USA!....
theeagleman5
Uruguay advances with a sensation 80th minute goal by Suarez....So. Korea goes home after a valiant effort....next up is USA-Ghana....looking for an Eagleman prediction?....it's a tough call....these guys are good and beat us four years ago in the group state....the Americans seem to be playing with confidence and passion...Tim Howard in goal could be the difference...Clint Dempsey scores the game winner.....2-1 USA to move on vs. Uruguay.....also for those interested...check out Mrs. Bethany Dempsey in the swimsuit section of SI.com....very lovely lady wearing only body paint....it's great to be an American!.... I haven't seen any US games yet this time around. Ghana appears to be a solvable problem. Should be a close game, but I think that the US can come out on top 2-1 (I agree with the Eagleman's prediction on this one).
theeagleman5
Bad start for the USA...terrible giveaway by Clark and poor positioning by goalie Tim Howard....he could have done better on that....again we give up a goal in the early going....it will not be easy but does this team have another comeback in it?...hope so....Americans have to change tactics in the 2nd half....we are being dominated so far....
