theeagleman5
Chance threw one scoreless inning in Reading's opener last night but the Phillies still lost at home in front of a near sellout crowd to the Portland Sea Dogs by 10-5....TheEagleman is hoping that Chapman will be up with AAA Lehigh Valley by summer... ....After the Lee and Halladay trades of the past year, the Phillies organization had little depth of pitching....the opportunity is there for Chance to move up to the majors as a middle reliever in the next year or two if he continues to perform well....he's already 26 yrs old and it's time to make his move...he probably needs to develop another pitch but then again, TheEagleman is no baseball scout....maybe Irish is familar with Chance and could weigh in on that issue.... theeagleman5
Chance pitched another 1.2 scoreless innings in Reading's 4-1 win over Portland last night....he did give up 2 hits and an unusual 2 walks but got out of any trouble....he's still unscored upon in two outings thus far....a good start to the season for the former Golden Eagle....The Phillies are 2-1 so far.... Irish333
Glad to see Chance is doing well! Chance will need at least 3 plus pitches to be a starter. Middle relief he will need at least 2 plus pitches with great command. Chappy was always one of my favorites to watch. Irish
theeagleman5
Another scoreless inning for Chapman last night in a 3-0 Phillies loss at Richmond....he did walk 2 but his ERA is still 0.00.....so far Chance has pitched 3.2 innings and given up only 2 hits but has walked 4....sooner or later, those walks end up being runs scored...gotta work on his control..... theeagleman5
Chance finally gave up a run tonight in a 2-1 loss at Harrisburg.....He went 2 innings giving up a lone hit and a walk and what turned out to be the winning run though Chapman did not take the loss since Reading was already behind at the time....his ERA is now 1.59 in 4 appearances.... theeagleman5
Chance threw 2 more scoreless innings today as he combinded with two other pitchers in a 2-0 shutout win for the Philles....Chapman gave up the only hit of the game but dropped his ERA to 1.35 in five outings thus far.... theeagleman5
Chance didn't fair well over the weekend....gave up a run in one inning of work in a loss Saturday and gave up 4 hits and 3 runs in another loss on Sunday....his ERA is up to 4.35....of course, he hadn't pitched in a week prior to the Sat. game....could have just been rusty....Chapman hasn't been getting regular work with Reading this year..... theeagleman5
Chappy got banged around again today giving up 2 runs in just 2/3 of an inning in a loss where Reading blew a 6-1 and fell 7-6....Chance's ERA is up to 6.10 now.....that's 3 substandard outings in a row......still early in the season but prayer is needed..... theeagleman5
Chance actually started yesterday's 5-2 Reading win over Akron....he went 4 innings giving up 1 run on 2 hits and a walk...had a single K....dropped his ERA to 5.02 and wasn't involved in the decision so he is still 0-0....but a decent outing for Chapman....TheEagleman would like to see him get more starts but his future is still probably as a middle reliever if Chance hopes to reach the show..... theeagleman5
Chance has been on the DL for about a week.....no details available....not sure if it's serious or not but TheEagleman will keep checking.....
theeagleman5
According to the Phillies' website, Chance has a "right oblique strain"....not sure of the severity but he has been out for 10 days so far....the same injury kept big league starter Joe Blanton out for over a month in April....that's not a good injury for a pitcher.... Irish333
Well....I'll have to keep him in my prayers! Chappy's one of the good ones! Irish
theeagleman5
Chapman is still on the DL with an oblique strain....no other info available....not a great season so far for Chance....ugh!....
theeagleman5
Chapman is active again but getting back in the groove at single A Clearwater in the Florida State League....Chance pitched two scoreless innings last Monday night in a 4-0 Threshers win....hopefully after another appearance or two, Chance will be back up at AA Reading.... theeagleman5
Chapman is back at AA Reading and had two scoreless outings over the weekend....he is still 0-0 with and ERA of 4.50.....at least he appears to be healthy again....
theeagleman5
Chance had another 1 1/3 scoreless innings last night in a 6-5 Reading Phillies loss at New Hampshire....his ERA is down to 4.15 but he did give up the winning run which was an inherited runner....Chappy has thrown 12 innings so far this season because he was our for 6 weeks with an injury....his control is a concern....10 walks to go with 10 Ks....that's not typical Chance Chapman.... theeagleman5
Looks like Chance is back in the regular bullpen rotation now....he came during the 6th inning last night to get a key out in the Phillies' 7-4 win vs. Altoona....ERA drops to 4.08.....if Chapman has any hopes of getting to MLB it's probably as a middle reliever....the Phillies need middle relief as do many major league teams....if the major league Phillies don't put Chapman on the 40 man roster at the end of this season, I am not sure but it's possible that Chance would be eligible for the Rule 5 draft which means any other major league team can pluck him from the Phils for $50,000....problem is, that team is required the keep Chance on the major league roster for the entire next season or they have to offer him back to the Phillies for $25,000....TheEagleman thought that Chapman might get to the AAA Iron Pigs this season but it appears that the 6 week injury to his oblique has set him back.....the major league club has had numerous bullpen injuries this year and some of the pitchers have been less than stellar in their performance....would love to see Chance get a chance....
