What's the scoop for Nashville this weekend?....does ORU have a shot to win this thing?.....

We're healthy, training has been good the last week. Neither opponent is a powerhouse, in fact we beat Belmont at home last year. Only downside is both opponents are from Nashville and we typically haven't been a very good road team in the past. Would seem like a good opportunity to change that though.

Finally found some info on Sunday's game... it was stopped during the first half and delayed until Monday morning due to lightning! Despite all of the challenges, the Golden Eagles earn their first win of the season with a 2-1 win over the host Bruins. Here's the story from the Belmont website...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont Bruins set out to play in the final game of the Mafiaoza's Invitational hosted by Belmont University against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. Both teams were coming off losses in their first match-up of the tournament.

Oral Roberts started strong and had several scoring opportunities in the first 10 minutes of the half. The best chance came off of a Golden Eagles corner kick but the subsequent header sailed over the crossbar.

Afterwards Belmont settled in and the game became a possession battle as each side's midfield struggled to retain the ball.

It was the weather that proved to be the most formidable opponent on Sunday, as the game was delayed due to lightning. The two teams picked up where they left off early Monday morning.

"It was difficult circumstances to wait, wait, and wait. Then an 8 a.m. kickoff is unheard of at this level," Coach Earle Davidson said. "The first 18 minutes it showed that it was tough for us to make that transition."

Oral Roberts came out strong on Monday and took early control of the game. They took the early lead in the 30th minute when Vince Tizzone's cross was deflected to Jarrett Hamilton who turned and shot the ball past the diving hands of the Belmont keeper. The Bruins went into halftime trailing by a goal.

Belmont started the second half with more urgency. They had a couple of early opportunities and seemed to be gaining momentum. However, Oral Roberts extended their lead 10 minutes into the second half after a barrage of shots eventually fell to Sterling Copeland who finished the shot from the top of Belmont's 18 yard box.

The second goal only seemed to fuel the Bruins, as they began to play even harder. Their tenacity finally paid off in the 85th minute. Bruins midfielder Justin Ferguson dribbled the ball down the right sideline and crossed the ball to the far post where he found forward Brett Parker waiting. Parker headed the ball back across the face of the goal, and freshman Brandon Tarr was there to finish.

The Bruins had one final opportunity just before the game ended when an Oral Roberts foul created a dangerous free kick opportunity for Belmont. The Bruins kick, however, floated harmlessly out of play and time ran out to end the game 2-1 in favor of the Golden Eagles.

Thanks for the great report, Blue...excellent work by you!.....what an facinating situation and certainly TheEagleman has never heard of a game being stopped and picked up the following day...sounds like ORU got the better night's rest and got on the board with two quick goals to get our first win...coming home for the ORU tournament at 1-1 is a lot better than the alternative....we'll take the split on the road anytime.....
