Coming out of junior college, Juan Martinez at first wanted to go to Cal Irvine, which has been college baseball's No. 1-ranked team most of this season. Later, he strongly considered Fresno State, the team that won last year's national championship.

Instead, he chose Oral Roberts. Something about the ORU program and coach Rob Walton just seemed to blend with Martinez' hard-hat personality and dawn-to-dusk work ethic....
