tmh8286
If you want to read something that will make you hold your breath every time the ball is pitched, read the SI article, Hit In The Head. It highlights some of the career-ending injuries that resulted from both thrown and hit balls over the hundred and twenty years or so that baseball has been around. The surprising twist is that the article concludes with the story of Mike Coolbaugh's tragic death, as first base coach for the Drillers, on July 22, 2007, and the remarkable, painful fact that many of those players whose stories had been highlighted in the article were present that night in Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock. It's a very interesting, though sobering, read.
