ORUJason
I heard an interview today with Clay Henry, a journalist from Arkansas who covers the razorbacks. He said that Arkansas has used a stud pitcher, Brett Eibner, as a starter for most of their mid-week (Tuesday night) games. However, they pitched him on Sunday, so he will not be playing against the Eagles. He said that ORU is lucky to not have to face this guy. I guess he threw a one-hitter earlier this year. Here's some info from the arkansasrazorbacks.com site about Arkansas' last week. http://www.arkansasrazorbacks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=6100&ATCLID=3724086 Arkansas Baseball Notebook April 19, 2009 Week: 2-3 - Overall Record: 26-11 - SEC Record: 11-6 Tuesday, April 14: La.-Monroe 3, Arkansas 2 Wednesday, April 15: Arkansas 10, La.-Monroe 9 (10 innings) Friday, April 17: Georgia 4, Arkansas 3 Saturday, April 18: Georgia 4, Arkansas 3 Sunday, April 19: Arkansas 2, Georgia 0 Noting the Razorbacks Arkansas (26-11, 11-4 SEC) was a disappointing 2-3 on the week, its first losing week of the season ... The Razorbacks played four one-run games and a two-run game ... Arkansas split a midweek series with Louisiana-Monroe, then took the third of three games from No. 1 Georgia ... The Razorbacks are now 3-2 this season against teams ranked No. 1 in one or more of the national polls ... The Razorbacks remain atop the SEC Western Division with their 11-4 conference record ... After earning its first ever No. 1 ranking, Arkansas dropped to No. 5 in Collegiate Baseball and ranked from No. 5 to No. 12 in the national polls and rankings ... In the Louisiana-Monroe series the Razorbacks dropped a 3-2 decision on Tuesday but rebounded on Wednesday thanks to Scott Lyons walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th ... Arkansas would then lose a pair of games to No. 1 Georgia on base hits in the bottom of the ninth inning ... Sophomore Brett Eibner was sensational on Sunday afternoon on the mound as he tossed a complete game one-hitter against a potent Georgia offense ... Eibner’s complete game shutout was the first by a Razorback since Nick Schmidt threw one against Alabama in 2007 and the one hitter was the first by a Razorback in more than 12 years (3/29/96) ... Eibner posted career bests for innings pitched, strikeouts, walks and hits and his 12 strikeouts were the most by a Razorback pitcher since Jess Todd fanned 17 on May 23, 2007 ... Eibner’s shutout of Georgia was the first time in over two years that the Bulldogs had failed to score and was Arkansas’ first against an SEC opponent since April 1, 1994 ... Arkansas now has three shutouts on the season, the most since it shutout six opponents during the 2007 campaign ... The Razorbacks got great starting pitching all weekend against the Bulldogs as Friday night starter Dallas Keuchel tossed seven innings and allowed three runs on a home run in the first, but kept Georgia off balance the rest of the way ... Saturday starter T.J. Forrest was very effective over six innings of work as he allowed just two runs on a home run ... At the plate, Chase Leavitt led the way with six hits over the five games including two doubles and his first home run while scoring twice and driving in a team best four RBI ... Andy Wilkins continues to wield a hot bat despite getting pitched around as he had four hits for the week and batted .308 while walking six times and belting his team leading 11th home run ... The Razorbacks continue their seven-game road swing on Tuesday when they play Oral Roberts in Tulsa, Okla., before traveling to Tennessee to take on the Tennessee Volunteers. Pitcher of the Week Nominee Brett Eibner * Sophomore * RHP Houston, Texas/The Woodlands High School * In two starts he was 1-0 on the week including a complete game one-hit shutout of the No. 1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, Ga. * Against the Bulldogs, one of the nation’s most potent offenses, he tossed Arkansas’ first one-hitter in more than 12 years (Richie Nye vs. S.C. on March 29, 1996). * His complete-game shutout was the first since MLB first-round draft pick Nick Schmidt tossed one against Alabama on May 23, 2007. * His one-hit shutout was the first time Georgia has been kept off the scoreboard in more than two years (April 8, 2007) and the first time they have been one-hit in nearly 15 (April 20, 1994) * Eibner’s 12 strikeouts were the most by a Razorback pitcher since Jess Todd struck out 17 batters on May 23, 2007 and the first time a Razorback pitcher stuck out 12 since Todd on May 18, 2007 against Ole Miss. * Eibner’s shutout was the first by Arkansas against an SEC opponent on the road since the Hogs blanked Vanderbilt on April 1, 1994. * His nine innings of work, 12 strikeouts, one hit and zero walks were all career bests. * He posted a 1.50 ERA for the week allowing six hits and two runs over 12 innings of work. * Dropped his season ERA nearly a point from 3.51 to 2.60 with the effort on Sunday against Georgia. * Held opponents to just a .154 batting average against him. * Pitched just three innings in his first start of the week as he was on a pitch count. * In Eibner’s last five outings he has allowed just four runs and kept opponents off the scoreboard in three of those games.
