Mike Minyard
It looks like Dr. Rutland was part of a 10 year strategic plan at Southeastern University. I know that ORU is going to launch a strategic plan as well, and I'm sure that is something stirred interest at the beginning. http://www.grayharris.com/news.php?ACTION=view&CAT=0&ID=1184
Old Titan
Sounds really promising: Texas native, college athletics background at Maryland, dynamic missions work at Southeastern. Looks like a great fit!
ORUIsbig
I can't tell you how huge this is. I am getting my PhD through Southeastern. Rutland managed to get a PhD program in a university that doesn't even have a masters theology program yet. He is real mover and shaker. He is a progressive thinker. He is fully Pentecostal and very modern. The faculty he has assembled in the theology realm is some of the best young pentecostal talent. He is a HOT commodity. this would be an amazing hire. I was at Southeastern this spring and you wouldn't imagine how nice that place is. They have great new buildings, amazing architecture and the student population is VERY diverse for an AG college. This is the right hire. Go ORU!
ORU Eli
WWWWOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Many of you don't even understand how dynamic this guy is...it's an incredible coincidence but he spoke at my church last week. Knowing nothing about him I walked away thinking it was one of the best sermons I've heard in a long long time. He was one of the most articulate and truly intelligent people I've seen on stage in awhile, yet incredibly funny and down to earth. His testimony is absolutely amazing. I encourage you...if you have a desk job where you can listen while you work or just feel like taking 30 minutes at home...listen to the free internet stream of his sermon/testimony....You'll see his name near the top of the page...just click on the audio button. I will be ecstatic if this is the next leader of our university...he has the exact type of attitude and vision that we need. http://www.gatewaypeople.com/index.php?action=res_sermons

ORUalum
i guess my only concern might be his academic credentials. i was hoping for more of an academic type. his PhD is from an unaccredited school. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Graduate_School_of_Theology
vcboy2000
I agree that his academic resume' isn't as prolific as I would have thought, but his track record at Southeastern is very impressive.

Mike Minyard
Southeastern Fire Set Sights on Div. I Title: http://www.theledger.com/article/20060504/NEWS/605040462 The rise of the program did not start with the hiring of Beck, Aagaard or by recruiting any budding superstars. The rise began when the president of Southeastern, Mark Rutland, decided it was time to upgrade the athletic department along with the rest of the university. "A rising tide lifts all the boats," Rutland said. "As our academics and facilities improved, it was almost impossible not for athletics to improve. "In addition to that, we've been very intentional about athletics and pressing it toward excellence," he said. "I never put pressure on our athletic director or coaches to win. We do emphasize a winning attitude and we want a program that is dedicated to excellence and discipline."

Honestly his academic portfolio is a bit concerning but if he's who the university needs to get to the next level I guess it might work. Also in all honesty, we need someone who believes in the importance of our athletic programs. I'm a little excited at this point.

ORUIsbig
Southeastern was the one of the fastest growing private college a year or so ago. He knows what he is doing. He is very well respected in the academic world. He couldn't be the president at harvard, but i think he's perfect for our university. Small AG colleges have often been maligned or dismissed by other more prestigious universities. After Rutland came to Southeastern, Everything changed. He is respected as a college president.
