Mike Minyard
ORU will play Central Arkansas on Monday, November 24, at noon. A noon game during the week! There is a reason behind it though. We have teamed up with TTCU for the "TTCU Best Field Trip Ever". We are getting in contact with schools in the Tulsa area to have a field trip to a women's basketball game. I've attached the letter at the bottom. We stole the idea from Wichita State. Actually they gave a lot of information to us. Click the link for a .pdf from the Shockers. https://admin.xosn.com/attachments1/6026.pdf Let me know if you have any contacts with public or private schools so that we can make sure we get information about this promotion in their hands ASAP. Thanks for any help!
Mike Minyard
I've already received a positive response from Tulsa Public Schools and Union as well as several private schools in the Tulsa area. Please contact me or feel free to pass the information on to anyone you know in the education systems. We're hoping for a great turnout. ron
Sounds like an absolutely phenomenal idea! I think you can win the hearts of a number of young fans (and perhaps their parents) by doing this. What would speak for and against doing this with the men's program?
Mike Minyard
Sounds like an absolutely phenomenal idea! I think you can win the hearts of a number of young fans (and perhaps their parents) by doing this. What would speak for and against doing this with the men's program? Too many season ticket holders and donors to basically take away a home game from them. The men have so few of home games that we just can't do it. This also allows us to go the extra mile for the women's program when it's tough to get good crowds.
ron
I understand your reasoning but I still think it's a shame because it would be a wonderful way to appeal to a new generation and generally get others interested that just need that extra little bit to turn them into ticket-buying supporters. Mike Minyard
I sent out about 600 letters to schools in the Greater Tulsa region, and I've received some great feedback. I think we could get a very good turnout for this event. We also now have an icon on ORUGoldenEagles.com that directs people to the press release. It's on the right hand side of the website. Mike Minyard
FYI... we've had schools confirm over 1,500 kids for the game. I'm predicting we will have about 3,000 kids for the game based on the amount of phone calls I get each day. I would imagine some people will show up without any notice too. Mike Minyard
Just a reminder that seating for this game only will be general admission even for season ticket holders. Seating will be available on a first come first serve basis. The arena will open up at 11 a.m.
