mickeyb
By MATT LEVIN World Sports Writer 5/25/2008 Last Modified: 5/25/2008 3:00 AM As he gazed at his MVP trophy, Oral Roberts' Brian Van Kirk murmured "triple crown, too." Yep, Van Kirk also earned that award. The clean-up hitter leads the Summit League in batting average (.417), RBIs (72) and home runs (17). On Friday, Van Kirk hit his 16th to break a tie with Southern Utah's Nick Freitas for the most league home runs. But Freitas tied it up with a homer later that night. Van Kirk took the lead for good Saturday with a solo shot in the third inning of the Summit League title game against Southern Utah. Going streaking: Oral Roberts' 11th straight league title moved ORU past Texas and into third all-time for consecutive league titles. Only Oklahoma State (16) and Wichita State (14) have held a longer streak. The Golden Eagles also earned their 12th consecutive victory and 20th straight home win the longest current streak in the nation.
