Mike Minyard
ORU vs. Arkansas Tuesday at 7 p.m. J.L. Johnson Stadium Tickets start at $5 for adults and $3 for youth/seniors. We have Tulsa World ads in the sports section that are buy one ticket get one free coupons on Sunday and Tuesday. Nearly 2,000 vouchers good for four tickets have been distributed to game sponsor Robertson Tire. The vouchers have been available for nearly two weeks. ORU has produced nearly 9,000 vouchers good for four tickets to ANY home game. The vouchers are located at about eight sponsors. Some of the sponsors are Mazzio's, Wendy's, Nordaggio's, Carino's (97th and riverside) and Arvest Banks. We've also worked out a deal with the American Red Cross so people receive a ticket voucher for donating blood.
Bogus Smith
Looking forward to Tuesday, Mike. It should be a fun game for all. Speaking of sponsors, has there been consideration of getting the sponsors involved in individual game day activities? For instance, having a blood drive in the Grand Slam (or Selinger) Room for one game where people can give blood and watch the game through the windows? Or allowing Nordaggio's to provide samples to fans attending (the students would come out for that!). In the past, we used to have Tulsa Clippers as a sponsor. Any thoughts of getting a haircut at a discounted price down the first or third base lines while watching the game? Just wondering...I'm sure you guys have thought of these and many other ideas to generate fan support - even to the casual or new fan. ORUalum
...i love how the BCS schools always use this excuse when they lose to ORU in mid-week games. here's an idea: how about scheduling ORU for a weekend series sometime. Razorbacks Recharged (excerpt) “They try to get ready for tournament play because they know they’re going to be in the (NCAA) tournament,” Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said. “There’s probably a 90 percent chance every year that they’re going to get in the tournament by winning their league. So they probably get more excited sometimes to play in the middle of the week this time of year than the weekend.” LINK
Bogus Smith
The article goes on to state the following.... ...Unlike the Golden Eagles, Arkansas is still putting more focus on the weekend games and getting back in the SEC race. But that doesn’t mean the Razorbacks wouldn’t like to keep up the winning ways in the middle of the week. ....Arkansas will again use a bullpen approach (Tuesday), with Van Horn electing to save the regular starters for Wednesday’s game against Alcorn State. Alcorn State?? Saving your pitching for a #23 rated team or a #208!! rated team?? Give me a break! They will use their best pitching for tomorrow night. They do not want to lose to us a second time when we're in the same neighborhood. “We’ll probably mix it up,” Van Horn said. “Tuesday will be more of the mixed night, then more of a longer start on Wednesday to save guys for the weekend.” Good bulletin board material for anyone on the team reading this. In a nutshell....no respect!
tmh8286
Great points, Bogus, and I was thinking the same thing. EVERY time ol' Van Horn talks about ORU he's playing down the game, deemphasizing it's importance, and so on. Could it be because he's had a hard time beating us in recent years, so he goes to the bullpen to pitch to us so he'll HAD AN EXCUSE FOR TH LOSS? His comments about games against the Eagles are almost always message board fodder.
ORUalum
...apparently Walton and Van Horn are close friends (last paragraph of article). Golden Eagles soar with Walton BY CHRIS COCOLES Posted on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 (excerpt) After 37 years and 95 overall meetings, Arkansas knows it’s usually in for a fight whenever Oral Roberts appears on the schedule. The Razorbacks (19-15 ) lead the overall series with the Golden Eagles 61-33-1 entering tonight’s 7 p.m. matchup in Tulsa, but the teams have split their past eight meetings. It’s no surprise considering what the little program in the little-regarded Summit League has evolved into. LINK
tmh8286
Van Horn has a funny way of talking about the team of a close friend . Also, the article says Rob learned a lot from losing to UC Irvine in the 2006 Super Regional. Problem there is, we lost in the Snake Pit - Clemson! ORUTex
Well, they can't really complain that we threw our ace - Kellly Minnesale making his third start of the season with a 7+ ERA. He's doing a great job so far tonight, though - 5 shutout innings, and counting.

Old Titan
He can spin it any way he wants - he just got punked again, this time by a centerfielder throwing a career complete game. Would love to hear him explain away another beating in the regionals in May...
