A not so good ending to the season last night for the Reading Phils and Chance as they were eliminated in 3 straight by Akron....Chapman gave up 2 runs in 2/3 of an inning.... :( ...TheEagleman still thinks there is a good possibility that Chappy will be at AAA Lehigh Valley next season....all in all, he had a fine season.... :)

Chance finishes the season with a 10-2 record combined record between A level Clearwater and AA level Reading....ERA a dazzling 2.13....76 innings pitched with 67 Ks.....TheEagleman thinks that Chappy did ORU proud this year and looks forward to a possible promotion to AAA Lehigh Valley in 2010.... :)

10-2 with a 2.13 ERA is pretty nice. What do you think his chances are starting out next season considering Philly's needs Eagleman?

Well, Doc....realistically, TheEagleman has not seen Chance's name on the Phillies list of Top 10 minor League prospects....that doesn't mean that he won't be in AAA Lehigh Valley next season with a shot to open some eyes and make the majors with the Phillies later in the season or in 2011...the Phillies bullpen has been a shambles lately and is probably the main reason why they won't repeat as World Series champions....they could use middle relief in the worst way and that seems to be where Chapman has a chance... .......he had a very consistant 2009 and should that continue in early 2010 at the AAA level....the big club has to take a serious look at him..... ;)

That's a good point, CB....having seen Chance pitch only once in person, he doesn't seem to impress with overpowering stuff....but he just gets the batters out....his numbers were all good this year....ERA, SO to walk ratio, opponents BA....Chapman had a really good year....but he is 25 yrs old, 26 at the beginning of next season and needs to keep moving up...TheEagleman thinks he will....AAA is most probable for the beginning of 2010....I would be surprised if he started next year in AA Reading again....hey, the Phillies brought up J.A. Happ this year and he was 27 before making the big leagues....some guys are late bloomers and Happ was also a college guy from lowly Northwestern...not near as big a program as ORU...Happ is a contender for NL rookie of the year....Chance's chance could come in 2011 if he has another season like this year at Lehigh Valley in 2010.... ;)

Just an FYI...the Phillies have not added Chappy to their off season 40 man roster....it doesn't necessarily mean anything because Chance is not eligible for the December Rule 5 Draft where teams may select players from other clubs who are not on the 40 man roster...he's not eligible because he hasn't been in the Phils system for at least 4 yrs....only 3.......it's possible Chance could be added later....I am not really sure if the Phillies look at Chance as future member of their bullpen... :!:

TheEagleman had a "chance" meeting on Wednesday night with Reuben Amaro, GM of the Phillies at a local restaurant.....after he dined and enjoyed some after dinner drinks, I approached him to give thanks for the past few seasons of great Phillie baseball....of course, I could not resist the opportunity to ask him about the prospects of our boy, Chance Chapman....naturally, Amaro is going to be a bit guarded with a stranger but he did tell me that he felt Chappy had a legit shot at the majors...he said it was all up to Chance and how he performs in the next season or two...obviously, this upcoming year is a huge one for Chapman....he will turn 26 early in 2010 and will likely get a shot at Triple A Lehigh Valley for the Phillies....we are a team in great need of middle relief and that is where Chance appears ticketed for his future if he is to make the big leagues.....also, after next season if he is not on the Phillies 40 man roster, he would be eligible for the Rule 5 draft and could be taken by any major league team for $50,000 if they are willing to keep him on the roster for an entire season......Chappy needs to have a strong year in 2010.... :!:

Chance is still on the AA Reading Phillies roster as we start spring training....TheEagleman would be a little surprised if he isn't up with AAA Lehigh Valley when the season begins or at least by May....the Phillies don't have a lot of pitching depth at the AAA level after making the Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay trades...big opportunity for Chappy to move up....the Phillies are also going to need middle relief within the next year or so....it's a real weak spot for the big club....that's where Chance has a chance to make it to the big leagues...he turns 26 this spring....time to show what he's got!.... ;)

Chance Chapman is still with the AA Reading Phillies in 2010 spring training....he pitched two good innings vs. the Toronto Blue Jays AA team a couple days ago....TheEagleman thinks that he should get called up to AAA if he gets off to a good start...the AAA Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs don't have a ton of bullpen hurlers.... :)
