FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Senior Andretti Bain made ORU history by winning a national championship in the 400-meter race at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships today.

With the win, Bain becomes the first-ever NCAA champion at Oral Roberts.

The Nassau, Bahamas native ran 46.19 for the win after setting a school record in the preliminary race Friday afternoon. Bain placed first in the prelim after running 46.02 to move on to today’s final.

Arizona State’s Joel Phillips placed second to Bain, running 46.27.

Senior Shaun Smith competed in the men’s 800-meter run after qualifying in the preliminaries yesterday. Bain finished sixth in the finals in a time of 1:50.33.

With the indoor season in the bag, the Oral Roberts’ outdoor track and field season begins March 22 at the Tulsa Duals on the University of Tulsa campus.

Andretti is one of the hardest working  athletes ever to step foot on the campus of ORU.  To see all of that work pay off, it couldn't have happened for a better, more humble person.
