tmh8286
Third time in a row that UMKC has beaten Valpo. The Valpo announcer was VERY disappointed in the Valpo play tonight. Toward the end of the game he said that he hated to compare teams, but some of the old Valpo teams would not have let that happen. Said the game was "a real dud" for the Valpo team. He was REALLY critical of Kone. Referred to him as a guy "that's SUPPOSED to be a NBA draft pick", but only scored on 1 out of 7 shots. Valpo shot 37%, UMKC 45%. The announcer was incredulous at their low 3 pt. shooting percentage. Valpo was out-rebounded by 7. I didn't realize till after the game that this was a HOME GAME for Valpo! ORUTerry
How much of the problem was caused by UMKC's match-up zone defense? Did they pressure the perimeter or did Valpo have open looks? It seems that Oppland did not touch the ball much in the first half and he made a lot of his points off offensive rebounds. Why doesn't he get the ball down low more? I know he is double teamed, but surely you could run some plays for him. Kone seemed to be a non-factor; hardly heard his name called for rebounds or scoring. He did miss the breakaway dunk though.
