Ryan Bush Named Womens Soccer Head Coach

TULSA - Oral Roberts University Athletic Director Mike Carter announced the hiring of Ryan Bush as the head women’s soccer coach on Thursday. Bush is an ORU alum that spent two years playing for the Golden Eagles and most recently served as an assistant under head coach Steve Hayes for the men’s soccer program.

“We are very excited to have Ryan Bush as our new women’s soccer coach,” Carter said. “He has done an outstanding job as an assistant under Steve Hayes and is very familiar with the university and to our soccer program.

“We believe he will do a great job and continue the success of our women’s soccer program.”

During his tenure with men’s soccer, the program has seen fast success. In only his second year, the Golden Eagles were ranked as high as No. 23 in the nation, the highest ranking in program history. During the five years, Bush helped guide the Golden Eagles to qualify for the postseason conference tournament each year.

“I am very appreciative of this opportunity provided by Mike Carter and the athletic department,” said Bush. “It is a tremendous honor to have the privilege to serve the institution and athletic program that has given me so much over the years, both as a player and coach. I think the women’s soccer program has the potential to have great success going into the future.”

Bush is instrumental as the camp director of the “Get your kicks” soccer camp that is held every summer on the campus of ORU. He also currently serves as the head coach for the Oklahoma Olympic Development program and is serving as a coach of the West Side Alliance Soccer Club.

The Sand Springs, Okla. native helped Hayes in all aspects of coaching from; scouting of opponents, game and office administration, recruiting, on-field coaching, off-season conditioning and summer camps.

Prior to joining the ORU staff, Bush was the head women’s soccer coach at Cascia Hall High School in Tulsa, Okla for the 2003-04 season.

Bush was a two-year standout for the Golden Eagles from 2001-02. He was part of the 2001 squad that captured the Mid-Continent Conference regular season crown. Before arriving at ORU, Bush played two years at Bacone College, where he led the team to a national top-25 ranking and a NJCAA Regional Finalist in 2000.

Bush received his masters in business administration from ORU in 2006, while earning his bachelors in business management in 2003 from ORU.

During his playing days in high school, Bush was a first team all-state performer and four year letterman for Charles Page High School. He also played for the Oklahoma Olympic Development program.

Bush replaces Kyle Cussen who resigned in January to become the head women’s soccer coach at the University of Tulsa.

He currently resides in Tulsa and is pursuing a masters of Divinity from ORU.
