MrsSmith Posted May 30 Posted May 30 I know we have no reason to follow the regionals this year. I did see that SDSU lost to Nebraska 4-1 today. Respectable showing. I believe I counted 4 number one seeds that lost today! Exciting for the mid majors. 3

ORU82 Posted May 30 Posted May 30 The Bunnies showed the baseball world this afternoon just what Summit League baseball is all about.

I wonder if SDSU could get a guarantee weekend in Tempe next year for some scrimmages to start the season?? 1 1
theeagleman5 Posted June 1 Posted June 1 UALR advances to Super Regional.......but the Hogs do not....... 1 1

theeagleman5 Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Troy stuns #8 Florida last night and will host UALR in a Super Regional this upcoming weekend.....so either the Trojans of Troy or the Trojans of UALR are headed to the CWS which is a total shocker.....Trojans of USC also moving on so thats a lot of trojans........lol.....OU also advances past #2 Georgia Tech and Cal Poly wins the regional at #1 UCLA.....strange goings on in NCAA Baseball this year.....
ORU82 Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Troy, St. John's, UALR and Cal Poly all make the Super Regionals. Congratulations to all of them. Meanwhile SDSU scores exactly 1 run in 18 innings of play and we sit at home for the 2nd year in a row and 4th time out of 7 years. Further, as was previously pointed out over $5,000,000 in recent booster support, facilities that are certainly top by far in the Summit League and a deep and rich history. And yet it seems to this poster that like a lot of the athletic teams we field, this program is making a slow fade into the tank. Something really needs to be done by the powers that be at 7777 South Lewis Avenue across all of our athletic programs. Sadly I do not hold a lot of hope that this will occur. 1 2
MrsSmith Posted June 2 Author Posted June 2 I understand your frustration and believe me I feel it too. But we were in the same position as seven (if I count correctly) #1 seeds in the regionals who did not advance, including #1 UCLA and #2 Georgia Tech. We do have better facilities and we were the better team, but it's a game and sometimes things don't go your way. Obviously losing the first game in our tournament was critical. How would you feel if you were Tennessee? They were in the UNC regional as the #2 seed. I've seen this information several times so I assume it is close. Mar 12, 2026 · Tennessee has the highest operating budget of any baseball school in the country, spending over $13 million, almost $3 million more than any other school. We would like to win everything every year, but it isn't going to happen. I can assure you that no one in the Athletic Dept likes to lose. Maybe we could all put our efforts into making a million dollars this year so we can all donate to the ORU NIL. 3
theeagleman5 Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Love you, Mrs. Smith.....BUT i think that ORU82 is spot on......not expecting to win EVERYTHING EVERY YEAR but TheEagleman DOES EXPECT that ORU WIN THE SUMMIT LEAGUE EVERY YEAR IN BASEBALL because the competition is horrific....we have to be better than we have been the past couple years and there are NO EXCUSES......I have no issues if we make the NCAA and lose to larger programs with bigger budgets....but can't be losing to SDSU who we were 6-0 against during the season then came up ultra small in the SL Tournament.....THAT IS A DISGRACE!!! I am watching these games and see the smaller programs like Troy, Cal Poly, Milwaukee and UALR playing with great passion and hustle....not seeing that from the Good Guys....at least not since Jonah Cox and that crew in 2023.....those dudes played with gusto and didn't come up small when the pressure was on....i dont know...maybe my expectations are too high....but gosh i really don't think so.....again not expecting CWS or Super Regionals....just a SL Tournament Championship.....too much to ask??....if so, then ORU needs to do some serious soul searching...bad enough our basketball program has hit rock bottom but sorry not in baseball.....can't happen........... 2 1

No offense, but I refuse to donate with the current "leadership" in place. Might as well take your money and drop it from the top of the BOK tower. The results would be about the same. dbl78 Posted June 3 Posted June 3 The Eagleman brought up a point that I have been thinking about throughout the season. I did not see the passion this year that I saw with the 2023 and other teams. I think this year's team was talented individually, but they just did not seem play together. This is just an outside observation, so it may not be true. 1
theeagleman5 Posted June 3 Posted June 3 Yes, 78.....I think with the portal most teams are changing year to year and there seems to be no bond between players....no "Band of Brothers" thing going on....which could be a reason why we are seeing so many upsets and the larger schools going down....many of the smaller schools have players that have been there for 2,3 or even 4 years...in a sport like Baseball we cannot discount the camaraderie factor.....ORU didn't seem to have that this season or last......just my 2 cents.....agree that it seemed like we had some talent except not hitting with RISP was a huge issue all season and came back to haunt us in the SL Tournament......

The team lacks a level of personality that someone steps up and props his teammates up. This is part of coaching, but also part of being a part of a team. It happens in all organizations - sports, business, government, etc. If you don't have passionate people driving towards a common goal, you will see mediocrity moving towards the end of a task (season, in this case). This passion is called the "it" factor and our 2023 team had this with Jonah Cox. There was no doubt that Jonah was headed to The Show if he stayed healthy and now he is there. People are attracted to these types of personalities and we need to find that for our team(s). You see this with the OKC Thunder. Sam Presti has no only done a great job of establishing a long-term strategy and bringing talent together, but he has developed a culture that guys that played in major metropolitan cities want to gravitate and be part of. You see it in the post-game interviews when all the teammates gather round and have fun with a chore that is required in their contracts. In today's college athletics, we can find and recruit these types of players in high school in order to develop them; however, in the back of a coach's mind he is unaware of how long he will be able to hold on to that talent for fear of getting poached and watching the investment of time and development go to play with another team for a bigger payday. No, it doesn't always come back to money but just like business if you create a environment of camaraderie, people will tend to stay if the money is competitive but not top-notch. Our coaches are attempting to bring that type of culture to its teams but you are also dealing with student-athletes and (as we remember) sometimes students do not-so-smart things. 1

I think even more important than Jonah Cox was Jake McMurray. Since we aren't in the dugout we don't really know. There have definitely been years where you felt like the chemistry was off, but personally I didn't see it this year. 3
