Sure would be nice though… If people want to "pony up" to get a good big man, I am sure that there are those that will gladly accept the financial assistance to spend your money accordingly. Remember, this isn't a problem that ORU and its athletic department created. Just like those that can afford Mercedes compared to Chevy's, we are all limited by the budget that we have on hand. We need to be grateful for what we have even if we can't afford the ability to put a Mercedes on our bench. Teams that mesh and build a system with the talents that they have can be as effective as the high-dollar purchases. ORU's game versus Tulsa last year is a good example.

LOL - now watch him sign with Omaha or Kansas City or some other school with less NIL money than ORU reportedly has… 1 1

He is a Gleague type of player. Going to take a huge pay cut. Now by the end of this upcoming season at A&M he will have made somewhere around $ 6 million dollars overall. Hope he and his family don't go through it all. 1

I sincerely hope PJ and all other NIL recipients have people advising them that have good character and will help them plan long term. $6,000,000 - $2,400,000(taxes) =$3,600,000. If PJ saves/invests $3,000,000 over time he will have a nice nest egg for the rest of his life and can live comfortably on the interest. The challenge today is too many people fund their wants instead of their needs. Imagine the temptation to buy the bling and impress others when you are his age. 1
ORUTerry Posted April 13 Posted April 13 Every friend and family member has their hand out… poor kid will probably be penniless in five years. I hope I’m wrong 1 A Christian never falls asleep in the fire or in the water, but grows drowsy in the sunshine. – Samuel Wilkes
Old Titan Posted April 13 Posted April 13 I wonder if most (practically all?) of these kids use their agent as a screener for contact with schools, and thus do they hear about EVERY school that reaches out, or only the ones the agent wants them to hear about (i.e. the schools with the most lucrative financial offers)? Does the agent consider whether it's a good fit for a kid in terms of style of play, competiton for playing time, social environment, etc? Or does he just push the school that will earn him (the agent) the best percentage? Would he without pause send a rural kid with perhaps no social skills to a huge land-grant college with 50,000 students? Would he just as quickly send an urban or foreign kid with a limited support structure at home to a Stillwater or a Lubbock with little consideration for how he might fit in socially? And do schools with less NIL money but a lot of outside-the-box intangibles to offer (like ORU) even get through the agent's screen?
Keenan Henderson Posted April 14 Posted April 14 The only thing I can think of is that ORU needs a miracle at this point. They are in between a rock and a hard place but Oral did say expect a miracle! The Eagles need a point guard and a center but those pg/c's who enter the portal have 50 other teams after them. In other words it will take a miracle. God did it with Connor from Arkansas a few years ago, so he can do it again! 2
2014Grad Posted April 17 Posted April 17 If those are the names were associated with and were interested in UMKC players from last year I think at this stage it’s pointing towards take who you can get
Keenan Henderson Posted April 17 Posted April 17 CJ Evans was KC's best player last year with 12 points and 4 assists. Yes, they were one of the bottom teams in all of D1 but maybe he could be ORU's point guard and put those same numbers again. Not to name names (you know anyway) but it would be a step up from last year at the point for the Eagles.

Meh. 5"11, would be his 4th school in 4 years, shot 22% from 3 - at that point may as well ride out developing Cal and Bo Williams!!! Don't get me wrong if he comes to ORU he would be welcome and I would 100% reserve judgement, but I have to agree with others the trend so far this transfer portal opening is very concerning...
Keenan Henderson Posted April 17 Posted April 17 You may have gotten an email about ORU signing a transfer from Northwestern named Blake Smith. He is a grad transfer listed at 6'6 190 and coach says he likes his defensive ability. That is one of the few times I can ever say we signed a guy for his defensive ability.
theeagleman5 Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Plus the kid is from the Philly area/Germantown Academy....that's some good basketball and he's a smart guy......TheEagleman likes it!!! 1
Keenan Henderson Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Looking at his stats/game long and here are some things to like: he played in 2 NCAA tournament games, had two starts with Northwestern averaging 8.5 points and 3.5 rebounds (versus Iowa and Maryland) and has good size for a guard/wing player. The issues are it took him 4 years to play one season, 32 games at 7 minutes a night for Blake's career. Was he injured or redshirted or just the 10th guy in the rotation? Maybe he backs up Connor at the wing and gives the Eagles 10 minutes a night. Just a fan's take but have no insider info on the guy.
Old Titan Posted April 17 Posted April 17 J.A.G. (…and FWIW: can anyone explain why he did not log a single minute of playing time this past season?) 1
