It is the curious case of Layman McGrady: son of a hall of famer, we know little about his high school career, he redshirted last year and then transfers.  Nothing against him but he is truly the mystery man.  Can he compete at D1 level? Unknown.

If one is born and raised in the US and has played in the traditional schools and structures (AAU etc.) as Laymen has with no offers, video or articles/accolades it 99% of the time does not indicate readiness that matches the higher levels of college basketball (D1, D2 etc).

I have ALWAYS been under the impression that ORU has a lot more to offer than academic (or in today's world) financial rewards.

It's a place to come to grow...to become a Whole Man*.  That is not something most schools have to offer, and it should be presented as being priceless.

It just takes the right person(s) out there on the recruiting trail spreading the word as athletic evangelists, PARTICULARLY with the parents and grandparents!

* I know; I know - Whole Person...

You said exactly what I've been thinking lately. We need players who really want to go to ORU--no matter how things go in basketball. They have to want the education (and all the other whole-person benefits) we offer.

Hey, let's face it:  not even 2-to-3-star prospects grow up with a Max Abmas poster in their bedroom, but still...the right young man (and particularly his family) CAN be inspired to become a part of something bigger than themselves (and their wallet) IF the right person is painting the picture.

It's happened before at ORU when circumstances seemed to make it impossible to distinguish a little ol' Bible college from all the big boys.  But Ken Trickey did it.  So did Bill Self.  And Corey Williams.  And Paul Mills.

Who will be the next ORU Basketball evangelist?

Sir Isaac Herron is also back in the portal, looking for a 6th season.  He had two injury years at ORU where he only saw action in one game.  That is another issue the NCAA is facing and trying to pass a rule that limits guys to 5 years, 4 years of action and one extra year for injury/redshirt.  They need to put that into effect asap.

Once his pathetic college odyssey comes to an end, over 1000 D1 basketball players will be able to say they either played with or against eternal mercenary P.J. Haggerty.  #fact

PJ is going to be disappointed when he is taking a pay cut to go play in the NBA in the first year.  🤣

The general manager who drafts him should be immediately fired. Dude is locker room poison; a prime example of everything bad in college basketball right now.

Every team he touches dies... ☠️

His fifth school in five years: TCU/Tulsa/Memphis/Kansas State/Texas A&M.  None would tell you they were better off in the long run having had him.

Oh, I don't disagree with you.  You're correct! Those school got what they deserved - a bad teammate for a lot of money.

I'm just saying that PJ is the family's "money daddy" and they are raiding these schools' hard-earned donors' money for their sole benefit.  In their eyes, it's their version of a distribution of wealth and they are going to "get their's".

This isn't the attitude of all student-athletes, but everyone around them (parents, agents, groupies, etc.) are feeding off their physical skills and talents.  #MoneyCan'tBuyYouLove

lol “raiding their hard earned donors money”😭😭😭. Cmon man, this whole NIL system is caused by grown adults throwing thousands to MILLIONS at teenagers to play a sport for their entertainment. It’s not a redistribution of wealth when people THROW money at you 🤦🏼‍♂️. It’s just supply and demand and for some reason hes still in demand 🤷🏼‍♂️.

Agree 100% 2014, is PJ causing more harm to the Texas A & M donors hard earned money than the $75mil buyout they are paying Jimbo Fisher to not coach their football team?

My problem with Harrington is not about the money, it's not even about how often he's flipped employers.  It's about how little he appears to care about doing his job.

Last time I checked, it's still a team sport.  He couldn't care less about winning, so long as he gets his, statistically and financially.  You can see it in the way he plays:  PJ loves him some PJ.

I have no patience for that sort of "player", in college or the pros.

Agreed!  You saw this in Jailen Bedford, and others, who are out there to get their points and move on to a higher bidder.  You can see this in their social media posts when they (or their agent) show their stat line after every game.  We had a player or two that were doing that this past season, too.  It should be no surprise when those players leave if you see this happen in the future seasons.
