I really miss Coach Duke. He was my all-time favorite coach of any sport - and one of the nicest people I’ve ever known.

After finally hearing all the details on this, I firmly stand behind everything I've said over the past few years. We desperately need new leadership in the athletic department. The dude should not be allowed to make any more hires.

Some of my best Oracle interviews/quotes came from Coach Duke back in the day......TheEagleman loved sitting in his office and just listening to Coach expound on a variety of topics.....Bernis Duke was a true gem and one of a kind.....ORU really should erect a statue of him on campus.....everybody loved that guy...honestly, other than our founder there may have been no more popular man on campus.....maybe Brother Bob Stamps??...but it would be a very short list....:tb-white:

PS...Jack Wallace and Bill Techanchuk would NOT be on that list....😃

100% on board with a Bernis statue on campus. And you are right (when I got there in 1989), outside of Oral, he was one of the most beloved people on campus.

And for good reason.

Agreed!  We do have a Bernis statue on campus....the Bernis Duke Tennis Center.  Before you get your panties in a wad about not having anything in bronze, note that there isn't another facility on campus that is named for a coach other than this one.  Bernis was a gem for the university and had the demeanor and coaching ability to thrive at ORU.  We should be grateful that someone thought enough of Bernis to put his name on this facility.

A brother Bob Stamps statue would be nice...he came to ORU in 1968 and was chaplain for 13 years...

I talked to him the other day...he is 85 years young...wrote a novel about the civil war and now needs to get it published. Even put my name "Cletus" in the book.

He was one of the best! This is a picture of him when he came to my church in 2004 and preached for a weekend seminar.
