Mark is from Kansas and has been out of coaching for a couple of years but still shocking he would go to KC. The Roos have done very little in over 40 years of D1 basketball but that will change with this new hire. 2
ORUIllini Posted February 2 Posted February 2 That is an impressive hire by KC! To me it shows that they mean business in focusing on their basketball program. It wouldn't have been as big of a hire as this, but last year I really hoped ORU went after Kevin Kruger who had been let go from UNLV. I just thought he was a solid coach coming from a strong pedigree of his father, Lon and all his coaching success it was worth a look. He ended up at U of I as one of Brad Underwood's top assistants this year. 1

This is either a coup or another Ted Owens (who is a great guy!). Trivia of the day: Ted Owens is the only coach that Oral Roberts attended the coach's presser when he was hired. He truly thought that Ted was going to get ORU (and him) to the mountaintop of college basketball.

Keenan Henderson Posted February 16 Posted February 16 It makes sense as Kansas State has struggled the last few years and missed on high paid transfers. I hear from field of 68 podcast that many more are coming: Arizona State, Cincy, and Providence. What about OU? It feels like Porter has been on the hot seat for a while but just recently beat Vandy and Georgia. Does he still have time to turn it around in Norman? Unless he somehow wins the SEC, tournament and makes the Big Dance, then I would expect the Sooners to move on.

Buyout went down a good amount so i think it would be around $5 million or so but if he takes another job they won't be responsible for it as i believe it is set up monthly for the next couple of years instead of an all at once type of buyout. Good planning on their part. He will end up back in the midwest as was always a bad fit at OU. 1

Old Titan Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 Memphis is another school where it’s probably time to move on from Penny Hardaway. Paul Mills may be safe now for another year at Wichita State; the Koch Brothers can’t pay every buyout in the Sunflower State. Might be time for 67-year-old Dana Altman to retire at Oregon. And perhaps Bill Self’s cardiologist will have the ultimate say re: the Kansas coach finally making the move to TV to become the next Al Maguire. 2

Dana Altmann has had a great career with Creighton and Oregon. He doesn't have to coach again if he doesn't want to, but no coach likes to go out except under their own terms.
