With the coaching change and a new regime, I thought it would be a nice to have a thread for any new recruits. When Mills was the coach it was common to have 15 to 20 scholarship offers out any given time and with Springmann we saw much less of that. A couple of interesting things from the list below. 1) We are heavily involved in the Tulsa area. I don't know much about these local players but several of them appear to highly recruited. 2) I don't recall us recruiting the LA area much in the past, I'm wondering who on the staff has a pipeline there? 3 )Lots of PG's being recruited for 2027 and all of them are taller then what we have had in the last 5 or 6 years.

I will say that Cal Furnish may be small (6'0") but he seems to have a very high IQ for basketball and may be the PG to beat out.  A player is always a defensive liability when you play as short as six-foot or shorter, but when you have Ofri to be out on the key, a short PG can work off the SG and still play at the top in the offense.

Jack Turner is from the LA area and may be a link to some connections there.

Coach Barnett was with Steve Alford, who was earlier the head coach at UCLA.  Of course, Alford's son is also on ORU's staff.  So it would seem the two of them would have some connection to Los Angeles via Steve Alford.

Latest offer appears to fit the rumored recruiting plan:  7-foot, 250-lb redshirt soph from the D-II ranks; has two years of eligibility left.

10 points and 7.5 rebounds in 30 minutes per game as a starter this past year; 60% from the free throw line, ZERO three point attempts in two seasons... 🤔

You had me at 7'0" and zero three attempts. 🤣 Simultaneous offers from USI and Denver. Likely more coming.

Hope he sees something he likes at ORU.

Fouled out of 5 games last year; a handful of other games in foul trouble late.  Wondering how he would fare out on the perimeter in D1 where many Summit front line players step out for pick-&-pop action...

Going after this guy is a step in the right direction.  It shows CB knows the Eagles need size/strength up front.  When was the last time ORU had a 7 foot 250 pound center on its roster?  I cannot think one of.  Yes, we had some tall guys but they were skinny.

It is a good point OT, in that he could not guard smaller centers that shoot 3s but I think the staff could find a place for him in the rotation. 😇

I'm just surprised that in the past two decades, ORU has not been able to land another big, burly post player with "game" in the Mickey Michalec mold since...well, Micky Michalec.

Kevin Ford, Marcus Lewis, and Elijah Lufile come to mind as well, but they were not quite as tall and broad, and did not have the "you can't move/stop me" frame that is so prevalent in Summit League big men, particularly at the Dakota schools.

Jorden was the last one I can remember. I don't recall him playing much at ORU but he transferred to another D1 school (Youngstown State) and had some minor success.

What does it say that I had no clue who you were referring to till I clicked on the link and saw his picture?  LOL

61% FG% and a shot blocker.  He could be a good get if he doesn't have an affinity to the Horizon League, where YSU and Oakland have also offered him.  He is a Michigander, so it will be interesting to see how much he likes cold weather (although he will get plenty of that in the Dakotas).
