ORU82 Posted October 19, 2025 Posted October 19, 2025 Any idea how we looked overall? Anyone know any details they can share?
Popular Post Old Titan Posted October 19, 2025 Popular Post Posted October 19, 2025 I’m getting bits and pieces: ”ragged” ”did not shoot the three well” ”big men did not assert themselves” The gym was a dive; floor was really slick. ORU managers tried to wet-sweep it during breaks but it was borderline dangerous to play on. All that being said, the final score was reportedly a tie (which I think in coach speak means “who cares about the score; we did not distinguish ourselves and we have a lot of work to do”. 3 3 1

That seems to be the theme this off season: ORU struggles shooting 3s and a lack of a big man inside. The concern is that Coach Barnett talked about wanting to shoot 3s this year at media day. I hope he has a plan B! The other red flag is a lack of a big man, which means rebounding and interior defense will be an issue. It means everyone will have to crash the boards this season. 1

I am usually accused of being a "glass half full" guy, and to that I plead "guilty as charged". Therefore, it should come as no surprise that I found a bright silver lining in OT's recap of comments from the exhibition. The combination of "did not shoot the three well" and "the final score was reportedly a tie" is quite a statement for an ORU team. The ORU program has been "live by the three, die by the three" for so long, I can't remember a game in recent years where ORU did not shoot the three well and was still in contention late in the game. In other words, if ORU didn't excel from beyond the arc and still "tied" the game, the Golden Eagles must've done something ELSE very well on Saturday. That gives me hope, as while I don't hate a fast-paced game with a torrent of made three point shots, I would much prefer a team that isn't so one-dimensional, and is able to win (or in this case, tie) a game through a combination of factors, not just with one approach. Time will tell, but I like this direction... 1 1 4

Here’s to silver-lined half-full glasses and the eternally-springing hope that every preseason brings. 2 1
