This is sad, but not totally unexpected.  Matthew was fighting for time with Ethan Fender (and Kane-Yates when he wasn't catching).  If Ethan is back for another season, I certainly understand Matthew wanting to find a place where he can play every day.  His parents were great people from the DFW area.

Looks like we added an unused 6’1”freshman pitcher from DBU.  Here’s his High School info from DBU’s website:

 

Two-year letterman at Covenant Christian Academy ... Played for head coach Michael Boughton … Was a two-time All-State selection and twice named First Team All-District during his prep career … Named the District Pitcher of the Year as senior and was the District MVP his junior year … Rated the No. 22 shortstop in the state of Texas by Perfect Game … Competed in the summers for the Texas Stix.

Currently in the portal from the 2025 roster:

Brandt and Hart are the only ones that saw significant action in the last two seasons.  Bailor and Hernandez are Bixby kids that probably came together to play again on the same team. 

Schroeder announced on X that he was committed to West Texas A&M south of Amarillo and closer to home.  That's the only commitment I have seen so far.  No one is listed as committed to ORU yet that I have seen.  As a matter of fact, I haven't seen where any of our 2025 roster players are playing this summer except for Brandt in the Western Canada Baseball League.

The Bison with a several losses in the portal:

• Landon Koenig to Ole Miss
• Danny Lachenmayer to National Champ LSU.  My LSU baseball crazy direct report tells me that Arkansas was also in the mix for the Bison's best reliever.
• Logan Knight to Cincinatti
• ORU nemesis Nolan Johnson to TCU

Also in the portal is NDSU's best hitter, sophomore Jake Schaffner.  I haven't found any evidence of him committing to another school.  The portal closes tomorrow.  Continued prayers that we fair better than the Bison.

If this belongs in the Summit League section just let me know and I will move it.

The portal closed at the end of the day yesterday.  Did we get through virtually unscathed?  I can't find any new activity yesterday.

Correct, no further defections than those noted above. 

There are a number of good opportunities in the portal of the right positions; however, we have kept the Hawaiian connection, Coil, Brodrick, Fender, Campbell, and Mainord.  Pitching seems to be in tact with Teel, Love, Sanford, Rouse,  Asher, Johnson, and Puffinbarger.  Cooper Kelley is coming off an ACL, but should fill in for Davis or Schark in the middle of the infield.  Plus, there are several recruits coming in that were signed in the fall of last year.  Hopefully they can gel into a team for the Spring.

He was touching 95 mph before last season.  Sounds like a great get for the good guys!

Luke looks like a smart kid from the area.  He has four years of eligibility left; hope he only needs two.  Below is Luke's bio from the Arkansas Piggies website.

 

We lost six pitchers to the portal (many were probably "coached" into entering the portal).  We are backfilling these losses with some quality replacements that should fit in well with our current stable of pitchers that remain.

RHP Will Yeary from Dallas Baptist will be joining the Golden Eagles for the 2026 season.

Yeary did not play in 2025.  From Mansfield, TX, he played for Covenant Christian Academy where he was a two-time All-State player; named the District Pitcher of the Year his senior year and District MVP his junior year.  He will be draft eligible in two years.

Matt Brandt ended up going to Mount Saint Mary in Maryland for his final year.  MSM is in the MAAC.  No further word on any of the others that went into the portal besides those that have been reported.
