Baseball Signs Seven During Fall Signing Period

TULSA?Oral Roberts University baseball head coach Rob Walton has announced the signing of seven student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent during the recently completed Fall Early Signing Period.

The seven players are: Stephen Barnes (Jacksonville, Fla./Lake City CC); Eli Diaz (Brooklyn, N.Y./Texarkana CC); Jeremy Hefner (Perkins, Okla./Seminole State); Ben Petralli (Weatherford, Texas/Sacramento City College); Jeff Scardino (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley HS); Jerry Sullivan (Mt. Olive, NJ/Budd Lake HS) and Adam Younger (Cape Coral, Fla./Seminole CC);

Stephen Barnes

* RHP * 6-4 * 220 * Jacksonville, Fla. (First Coast HS/Lake City CC)

Sophomore at Lake City Community College in Florida ? drafted in 2004 and 2005 by the Milwaukee Brewers, going in the 36th round each time ? was 6-3 with a 3.33 ERA last season for LCCC, with 58 strikeouts and 24 walks in 76.0 IP ? allowed only 62 hits as opponents batted just .215 against him ? prepped at Jacksonville's First Coast High ? tossed a perfect game as a senior when he went 10-0 with a 0.50 ERA ? named Florida 4A Player of the Year ? two-time all-conference selection in golf ? also lettered in basketball ? chose ORU over Maryland and Georgia.

Eli Diaz

* RHP * 6-3 * 190 * Brooklyn, N.Y. (Cypress Creek HS/Texarkana CC)

Sophomore at Texarkana College in Texarkana, Texas ? played freshman season at Baton Rouge Community College ?? drafted in the 47th round of 2005 MLB Draft by Tampa Bay Devil Rays ? cousin of Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jose Capellan ? prepped at Cypress Creek HS in Orlando, Fla.

Jeremy Hefner

* RHP * 6-5 * 200 * Perkins, Okla. (Perkins-Tryon HS/Seminole State)

Sophomore at Seminole State ? drafted twice, in the 46th round by the New York Mets in 2004 and again by the Mets in the 48th round in 2005 ? was 5-4 with two saves and a 4.03 ERA as a freshman for the Trojans last season ? threw 46.0 innings, striking out 47 batters with 23 walks ... helped lead Perkins-Tryon High to three straight 3A semifinal appearances ? first-team All-State selection as a senior ? also lettered in football ? chose ORU over Oklahoma State, TCU, New Mexico State and Penn State.

Ben Petralli

* C * 6-2 * 180 * Weatherford, Texas (Weatherford HS/Sacramento City College)

Considered the top junior college catcher in California ? son of former Major League backstop Geno Petralli, a 12-year veteran with the Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers ? another two-time draftee ? selected in 15th round in 2005 by the Detroit Tigers and taken in 26th round in 2004 by the Los Angeles Dodgers ? batted .308 with 10 doubles, a triple and 20 RBI in 39 games for Sac City as a freshman ? helped lead the Panthers to the California Community College Baseball Playoffs ? prepped at Weatherford High.

Jeff Scardino

* OF * 5-8 * 170 * Tulsa, Okla. (Bishop Kelley HS)

Currently a senior at Tulsa's Bishop Kelley High ? helped lead BKHS to the 2004 5A state championship ? a first-team Tulsa World all-metro selection in 2005 after batting .429 with seven home runs and 45 RBI ? also a wide receiver on Bishop Kelley's football team.

Jerry Sullivan

* RHP * 6-4 * 200 * Budd Lake, N.J. (Mt. Olive HS)

Considered one of the top high school pitching prospects in the country before undergoing successful Tommy John surgery in late November ? was throwing his fastball between 93-95 mph before the injury ? is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of the 2007 college season ? presented with the Cal Ripken, Jr. Sportsmanship Award by the award's namesake at the Aflac All-American Classic showcase last summer in Baltimore ?the Aflac All-American Classic features the top 38 rising seniors in the country.

Adam Younger

* SS * 6-1 * 190 * Cape Coral, Fla. (Ft. Myers HS/Seminole CC)

Sophomore at Seminole Community College in Sanford, Fla. ? considered a premium defensive player ? batted .240 as a freshman but showed good power with seven doubles and six home runs ? drove in 24 runs while playing in 50 games with 46 starts ? Seminole was 39-20 last season and finished third in the state tournament ? prepped at Ft. Myers High ? named Team MVP, all-conference and an all-star ? helped lead Ft. Myers to a pair of district championships ? chose ORU over Florida Atlantic, North Florida and South Florida.
