ORUTerry
Injury forces Voelker out by MIKE BROWN World Sports Writer 3/8/2007 Janae Voelker's knee injury is more serious than first reports indicated, and will prevent her from playing in the NCAA Tournament, ORU women's coach Jerry Finkbeiner said Wednesday. The freshman forward injured her left knee while driving to the basket late in the first half of ORU's 72-55 win over Oakland (Mich.) in Tuesday's Mid-Con championship game. She also broke her nose and chipped a tooth while diving for a loose ball earlier in the game. Voelker underwent an MRI examination Tuesday night to determine the extent of damage. Finkbeiner said preliminary MRI results indicated "a strong possibility of a complete tear of the (anterior cruciate ligament) and other knee trauma -- something that is going to require extended treatment well beyond the next week and a half." He said Voelker played a key role in ORU's push for a fourth NCAA berth in nine years. She averaged 9.2 points and 7.4 rebounds in 11 games after becoming a starter.
