Some of the guys I saw looked like men who had been in the weight room for years. It will be interesting to see how this team meshes but physically we should fine and hopefully this translates to some tough D.

Hopefully this translates into some tough D and better rebounding.

Does anyone know why Illinois Chicago backed out of the home and home series?  Now that game is no longer available then that means the Eagles open with 4 out of 5 on the road.  Tough beginning for a new team that is relying on 6 or 7 guys to step up.  How will they respond?  The biggest concern is that this road stretch does not break their confidence.

I heard biggest issue was new coach at UIC didn't want to play the game and was going to pay the buyout to not play. And this late in the year it's dang near impossible to find a team that wants to play. Plus with the new rule in the Summit League that says they can only play a certain amount of non D1 games that limits ya from hitting up some schools who would be happy to come play at the drop of a hat. Just seems to be a real issue today with people not wanting to play road games against the mid/low majors. There's a lot more to it that I was told, but it seems to just be that Coach Rob Ehsan who got the job back in April felt that it wasn't a good thing for them. Keenan I'm with you. I hope that that stretch of games doesn't hurt that confidence level. Looking forward to this year though!

There's a word for coaches like Rob Ehsan but TheEagleman won't use it on this board......hope Ill-Chicago goes 4-26... 😛

Do we know how much they had to pay for the buyout?

From Rocco Miller on X:

The Citadel joined Lehigh, ORU, Florida A&M, Loyola-MD, Marist, WCU, and St. Peter's (unannounced) in opting not to play a Multi-Team Event - each will be capped at 29 games.

List doesn't include Ivy League programs of Harvard, Columbia, Dartmouth, and Cornell - which have MTE limitations.

Sorry what exactly does that mean???...ORU won't be adding any more games this year?  or any year??  👎

It just means that ORU is one of eight D1 basketball programs (not including Ivy League) that is NOT participating in a MTE (which allows you to play more overall games by an NCAA exception).  As such, ORU can only play 29 regular season games this season.  The current schedule only lists 28 games, so ORU could add another game to the schedule this season if it finds a suitable arrangement.

I personally believe that an MTE provides a unique opportunity to play different teams(usually on a neutral court), can be a valuable athlete and team experience, and adds games to the schedule (and games are the reason teams practice).  I know that there are other factors (primarily financial) why an MTE might not make sense for ORU.  But, IMHO, to be one of eight teams in the country to not be participating is disappointing.

ORU has not played in one of those MTE's in a long time: Mills first season and that was only because Sutton set it up before he was fired.  Springmann has so far followed Mills scheduling philosophy: stay away from non-conference tournaments, schedule 3-4 NAIA teams and play Power 5 teams close by (Texas Tech, OK State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M).  Once and a while Mills would take a road trip (St. Mary's, Colorado State, etc). and Springmann goes to Minnesota this year.  The key is to keep the travel down, so the team is not tired/burned out as the season goes on.

Thanks, for the explanation, TrueBlue and TheEagleman is also Disappointed....I do not agree with the Mills/Springmann scheduling philosophy and frankly it's a bit of an insult to the fans and looks to pick up easy wins over non D-1 schools to pad the record....that's not very exciting nor is it going to bring fans into Mabee Center...and the founder of our University would also not approve....I guarantee it.....let's play more competitive mid majors and a few of the big boys each year.....Scott Sutton usually found a way to knock one off now and then...if you don't try you don't build the program....playing Ozark Christian just ain't the answer my friends....:tb-white:

If our goal is to win a conference tournament, MTE’s are the closest thing to replicating that feel. Travel to one location, practice good habits (sleeping, eating hanging out etc) between games, quickly game plan for different opponents, prepare mentally for the unknown, bonding etc.

It’s unfortunate we are one of 8 who won’t get that experience, especially with such a new team. Fingers crossed we see them sometime in the future.

Hard to think of many reasons why ORU should feel good about making ANY list that only includes The Citadel, Lehigh, Florida A&M, Loyola-MD, Marist, WCU, and St. Peter’s.

Feels kinda like sitting on the couch at the Faber College fraternity rush party with Mohamet, Jugdish, Sidney and Clayton.  #AnimalHouse #GoogleIt

Not sure where to put this update but mark October 8th on your calendar (do people still do that).   That will be Summit League media day with the Field of 68 and Jeff Goodman.   Similar to last year, in that, the Eagles are bringing McBride as their speaker. He always does a great job!

Just for fun I looked at Illinois Chicago's schedule and they cancelled the Mabee Center game with ORU to bring in a non D1 home game.  That was a surprise.  I thought maybe they got a big money game with say Michigan or Ohio State to replace it.  I would call them clowns but we believe in forgiveness.

Like the time Texas Tech baseball bought out their mid-week game in Tulsa to go play Abilene Christian instead of a home game.  We have never seen TTU on our baseball schedule since and I doubt we will see UIC again either.

Some changes to ORU's schedule according to the Eagles website: Haskell is moved to Nov. 16th (Sat) to replace Illinois Chicago and Rogers State is added to Nov. 25th before Thanksgiving.  Now the Eagles have 4 non D1 games.  Sorry local fans but since UIC backed out, they had no other option.
