Strong showing for women's golf

BAJA, Mexico?Pamela Ontiveros (Torreon, Mexico) finished in a four-way tie for second place by shooting a 6-over par 74-76=150 and Christy Carter (Tulsa, Okla.) tied for seventh with a 75-77=152 to lead Oral Roberts University to a fifth-place finish at the Baja Classic, Monday and Tuesday. The event was ORU?s first of the spring season.

ORU finished with a two-round team score of 621, finishing 12 stokes behind tournament champion Oregon (609). The Golden Eagles finished behind Louisville (613), Birmingham Southern (620) and Colorado (620).

ORU placed just ahead of Texas Tech (624), Memphis (625), Kansas (639), Kansas State (642) and Kentucky (654), among others.

The event was shortened to two rounds after heavy fog cancelled Tuesday?s final round.

Also competing for ORU were Jessica Gibson (Tulsa, Okla.), who placed 35th with a 78-81=159; Lilia Maeda (Torreon, Mexico), who placed 47th with a 78-84=162; and Sharon McAlpine (Ft. Worth, Texas) placed 56th with a 82-82=164.

The Golden Eagles next compete in the 2007 Islander Spring Classic, Feb. 26-27 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Nice!  We're in there duking in out with some of the big boys . . . or should I say, big girls!  Great start on the season.

But did they have to go that far south to find a golf course without snow and ice on it???

Probably not . . . but it will sure help recruiting!
