ORU at UST - 5/5 - 5/7

The boys will be lucky to get two games in this weekend.  A lot of rain forecasted for Saturday afternoon and into Sunday morning.  May be able to schedule a double header for Friday or two 7-inning double headers on Sunday before it starts raining again on Sunday evening.

At least the temperatures are better than Council Bluffs a couple of weekends ago.

I would imagine St. Thomas is in no hurry to play ANY of these games; they're battling Omaha and Northern Colorado for the No. 4 Seed in Fargo, and their chances of finishing with a better winning percentage would be greatly improved by avoiding any further games with the Golden Eagles.

Heck, they might be pulling a "Bull Durham Rainout" even as we speak...

A “rained-out” series would be the best outcome for both teams.  While UST is in a dogfight for the 4th seed in the tourney, the risk/reward that ORU faces in every remaining game against a 250+ RPI opponent is significantly weighted towards risk.  The 5-10% chance of a loss (which would significantly hurt the potential NCAA seeding) is simply not worth the benefit gained from the 90-95% chance of a win that does nothing to improve the resume.

...and yet, because one of the days is decent, the team will have to make the trek to Minneapolis to play one day and potentially stay in their hotel or locker room (assuming their ballpark has locker rooms) for the remaining two days.

Weather forecast not looking great for Saturday but Friday/Sunday appear to be fine.....ORU vs. St. Thomas should get all three games in but could be a DH on Sunday......Good Guys need a sweep if they want to keep hopes alive for a #3 seed......Tommies battling for that final playoff spot in the Summit.....:shield-logo:

There will be no motivation for UST to play all three games and get three losses onto their record.  Don't be surprised if they forget to put on the tarp after Friday night's game (assuming that they have a tarp, of course!). 🤣

Sportsmanship - fair play, respect for opponents, and gracious behavior in winning or losing.  Does this describe UST??  🤔

Breaking News:  according to the weekly Summit League baseball press release (see below), St. Thomas is ineligible for the conference tournament as part of their D1 transition process.

Interesting that the league saw fit to reward the Tommies men and women's basketball teams with automatic berths in Sioux Falls, but afforded no such courtesy to the baseball program (which would have actually earned the honor by finishing ahead of three other teams).

So the Tommies might instead be looking forward to as much baseball as they can play in the nect couple of weeks, though I doubt getting run-ruled a time or two would qualify in their minds as a fun weekend.

Regardless, it also means ORU will now most likely face either Omaha or Northern Colorado in Game 1 in Fargo.

There’s always the possibility of a trip to the Mall of America!  5,600,000 sq ft of pure retail bliss plus a theme park and an aquarium.

That is probably Saturday's get-out-of-the-hotel entertainment. 🤷‍♂️

St. Thomas cannot control the weather, but they do have a nice looking field with an astroturf infield and a natural grass outfield, albeit with a seating capacity of only 250.

A nice looking ballpark.  There is going to be some doubles, triples and inside-the-park home runs this weekend with a fence in center field of 465 feet.  Hopefully the wind is blowing out!  The Tommies have a 159-44 home record at Koch Diamond (3-3 in this season).  Hopefully we will help them get to 159-47 this weekend.

Koch Diamond

P.S. We don't have to worry about them putting on the tarp with their artificial turf. 🤣 🤣

The Tommies are promising a free broadcast for us to enjoy.  As always, I encourage synchronization of Adam’s call with the video on mute.

That's the only way to watch away games - home video with Adam's call.

We are fortunate to have Adam as our PxP guy.  We have had good luck in this area with Dave Garrett, Geoff Haxton and Adam Hildebrand being behind the mic for this millennium.
