Confirmed: Paul Mills to Wichita State

I just went to the Wichita State basketball forum and we are like gentle sheep compared to some of their fans! Some fans want Mills gone and make no bones about it. Coaching is a difficult profession. On the other hand what other profession gives you big  guaranteed $$ before you actually provide a winning product? College athletes now fall into this same category which I detest. How come you and I can't demand a boat load of $$ before we succeed at our job or business? in my opinion this is so bass ackwards!! Win or lose Mills walks away with $8-10 million!

Shockers lost another tough home game last night vs. a very good North Texas squad....WSU was ahead late in the contest but fell at the end 58-54....the Mills' boys are now just 11-10.....:hc_mills:

Huge win for the Shockers today in OT over #14 Memphis on ESPN, first win over a ranked team in over 4 years and Koch was rocking! Mills quieted a lot of doubters today...for a while at least.

Credit where credit is due.....Five wins in a row now for Coach Mills and WSU as they won on the road last night vs. a very decent FAU squad....perhaps this will get the wolves off his back for a week?.....:hc_mills:

With all due respect to BannerHangin'40, anyone requiring an example for "hyperbole" need only reference Exhibit A above... 😉

His presence is still felt at the Mabee Center! I took this photo inside the north entrance just last night. You gotta admit, those were pretty heady days.

Get out the air brush and replace Mills with Max.  It is a crime that he's in that picture and Max isn't.

Max may be gone but isn't forgotten, Otis. This great image greets fans on the concourse not far from the one of Mills. I love Kareem looking on as Max lines up with the basket.

Well Coach Mills coaxed the Shockers past the Bulls 73-68.  It was not a thing of beauty with USF shooting 36.4% and Wichita St shooting 41.7%.  Good defense I guess?  Looks like the Shockers 3 pt shooting was the difference knocking down 4 more treys than the Bulls.  I guess ADTJ will have to wait another day to try to lure his old coach back to 71st and Lewis 😜

Mills will be coaching in Wichita for a while. The Shockers are currently paying three different coaches (Marshall, Brown, and Mills).

Marshall’s contract doesn’t end until Dec 2026. So unless WSU wants to fire Mills and pay four coaches concurrently Mills is safe as head coach.

I hope you’re right. That would be one less thing for me to worry about.

What is Greg Marshall doing these days?? Guy was a pretty darn good coach despite the inglorious ending... 🤔

Hummmm....might ORU be the perfect place for a humbled former star coach to experience forgiveness and resume his career? Longshot for sure and not sure if he is a Christian man but wouldn't it be ironic??? image.jpeg.b2ca97285c0506b8df473e5b48fbeae9.jpeg

Not sure anyone has ever used humble to describe Greg Marshall! 🙂

The allegations which got him let go from Wichita st. were pretty serious.

Oh.. and he got $7.75 million to walk away. Not a bad payoff.

Ex-TU star, PJ Haggerty, has superstar effort against Mills' WSU team.  PJ does not have much humility as he taunts the WSU free throw shooter after he misses two free throws at the end.  #NotAClassAct

I watched the last 5 minutes of the American Championship quarterfinal between #8 seed Wichita State and #1 seed Memphis. With 2:45 left, the officials made a questionable goal tending call, that kept WSU from getting within 2 points. Mills had a lot of animated words with the refs to no avail. The announcer actually agreed with Mills about the bad call. With 1.3 seconds left, the score was 80-83 and WSU's Beverly had 2 free throws. He had made all of his free throws up to that point, but missed both of them. Game over, but WSU was a feisty opponent.
