ORUSwagger
WSU 6-4 headed into their game against ORU. Schedule so far for WSU not a strong one compared to ORU’s early season schedule. ORU holds the all-time record at 22-20. Random Fact: First game between both clubs was May 28th, 1999

Random Fact: First game between both clubs was May 28th, 1999 Not sure where your "random fact" came from; ORU and WSU have been rivals since the '70's, the Shockers led the all-time series 41-32 heading into today's tilt..... ....where ORU built a 5-0 lead through five chilly, drizzly innings before going to the bullpon and hanging on for dear life. Wichita State loaded the bases with just one out in the bottom of the ninth, but fell 6-5 to the good guys. And that deciding run came on a bizarre play that I have never seen in 50+ years of watching college baseball. Leading 5-3 in the top of the ninth, Jonah Cox scampered from first-to-third following a wild pick-off throw to first. The pitcher backing up the play between third and the Shocker dugout gets the ball thrown to him by an infielder, starts walking back to the mound, and then (apparently wanting a cleaner or drier ball to face the next batter) turns and tosses the ball into the WSU dugout. Just one problem: that ball is STILL IN PLAY. Cox and ORU third base coach Ryan Neill look at each other like, "Whaaaat??", and then Cox bolts for home plate for ORU's sixth (and ultimately winning) run. The look on his face as he sprinted into the ORU dugout waa priceless; he looks like a kid who just stole a cookie. Some of the play can be seen here - including Cox's reaction. The whole thing, including a different angle after a commercial break, can be seen starting at the 2:40:35 mark of the game replay on ESPN+ 2

Also, is Cox not automatically awarded home there? The closest thing I've seen to that was an ORU regional game about 10 years ago vs. Oklahoma in which the Sooners committed 2 errors on the same ground ball after it rolled under the glove of the shortstop and then the left fielder! ron
I feel bad for the pitcher on that one. Seniors (60+) have an excuse when they do that called a "Seniors moment". Baseball players . . . ?
