Summit League Nonconference

There are some good Summit League non conference games tonight and throughout the next two months.   The ones to watch tonight are: NDSU at Arkansas, South Dakota at Wisconsin, and SDSU at a good mid major Akron.  We shall see how good the Dakota teams are in week one of the season.

Arkansas is without their potential top five 5 pick and best player Nick Smith, so who knows maybe NDSU pulls the upset?

Western Illinois loses four starters from last year and wins on the road versus Illinois State.   The league looked pretty good overall.

UMKC falls to D2 squad in their opener.

SDSU wins on a buzzer beater at Boise State, 68-66.  Boise State won the Mountain West Conference last year, so this was a nice win for the Jackrabbits.

I watched parts of the SDSU/Akron game on ESPN+ and the announcers made the comment that it was a 905 mile trip from Brookings to Akron and then a 2400+ mile trip to Boise.  Given that the Bunnies played in Akron on Monday and then Boise on Wednesday, that is impressive from a stamina standpoint.

Great post 82, stamina is not just physical it's also mental. SDSU showed not just physical toughness; but more importantly, mental toughness! That shows a well-coached, veteran team, that doesn't just want to win but is doing the hard things needed to be champion!! Going on the road and not making excuses about scheduling or travel or anything else and winning a tough close road game right after losing a tough road game.

This is the kind of veteran toughness we need to show in the second road game in Texas next week and in conference and more importantly day 2 or 3 in the conference tourney.  Everyone says the league favors SDSU, but they are walking the walk!! Is ORU just talking or are we as mentally and physically tough as the bunnies?? Enough talking about league championships and getting back to the big dance... It's time for the program to put up!!

Let's slow down on the hype (pre-season predictions and accolades mean nothing now) and get back to the basics and prove on the court; game in and game out, at home or on the road, that we are also a mentally and physically tough veteran team that can play anyone, anytime and anywhere! That we are willing to fight for a championship!!      Go Eagles!!

Living in Boise, and hearing the pre-season hype around this team, this is a HUGE win for SDSU.  By pushing Akron to overtime on the road, traveling 2000 miles on the off day and then taking down Boise State, SDSU has started the season with a BANG.  The Jackrabbits have definitely thrown down the gauntlet to the other Summit contenders.

Interesting that SDSU wins games like that....ORU doesn't.......that's an impressive win at Boise St. last night after almost winning at Akron 48 hrs earlier......what is their secret??? Talent?...Coaching?  Toughness?.....all three?.....:sdsu:

All that being said about the Jackrabbits, it's South Dakota I've been most impressed with so far.

AJ Pitzelwite (sp?) is fully-recovered from a horrific knee injury two years ago, and looked great in scoring 30+ points Wednesday night in the Yotes home opener vs. Lipscomb.  And last year's Freshman of the Year Paul Bruns was a great portal pick-up from UND.

USD is big, physical, tough, and capable.  They would be my pick right now if conference play opened today.

Can't argue with that thinking, OT....Coyotes are gonna be good....and it's about time for ORU to get a signature road win in the Paul Mills era.....we are overdue but it's not gonna be Monday Night at Houston and I wouldn't consider Texas Southern a signature road win....maybe Utah State? :tb-blue:
