For Immediate Release: October 27, 2006

STELLENBOSCH, South Africa?Oral Roberts University senior golfer Mauricio Tamez (Monterrey, Mexico) fired a second round 4-under par 68 to move into a tie for second place on Friday at the World Amateur Golf Championships at De Zalze Golf Club.

Tamez is at 6-under par for the tournament. He is tied with Japan?s Uki Usami, and trails leader Chris Kirk of the United States by one stroke. Tamez?s strong play also helped move Mexico up to third place in the team standings. Mexico trails leader United States by two strokes, and Canada by one.

Tamez?s Friday round included eagles on numbers five and 12. He finished strong, birdying three of the final six holes en route to a 33 on the back nine.

Conducted by the International Golf Federation, which comprises the national governing bodies of golf in more than 100 countries, the World Amateur Golf Championships are a biennial international amateur golf competition rotated among three geographic zones: Asia-Pacific, American and European-African.

Each team, which has two or three players, plays 18 holes of stroke play for four days.  In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round.  The four-day (72-hole) total is the team?s score for the championship.

Over 200 of the world?s best amateurs are competing at the WAGC.

Tournament play resumes on Saturday. For more information, visit www.internationalgolffederation.org.
