Schedule 22-23

The Houston area is a BIG recruiting focus for us - besides the fact that Mills is from there. This is a nice pair of games and hopefully we can continue these relationships into the next few seasons...

Houston obviously a Top 10 team and Texas Southern always good with a lot of talent....two games against NCAA Tournament teams in two nights will be tough sledding.....but better than playing Haskell and SW Christian.....🙄

ESPN has Houston ranked #3 in their way too early top 25 rankings.  Of course, they were a final four team not to long ago (2021).  Who says the top teams are afraid to play little old ORU?

Summit League announcing that the basketball tournament will last five days this year, March 3-7, and include all ten teams.  Wow, now it is bascially a week long tournament.  The top two seeds will play a team that already had a first round game and then if they win, will have a day off.  It goes without saying that the Eagles really need to finish in the top 2 this year in the Summit League.

Love it!! Let's get out there and mix it up a bit!! Cut the NAIA crap and the "good teams are afraid to play us" BS and let's play a real schedule. So far, so good!!

It shows that maybe the Power 5's will not schedule ORU but the top mid majors will: Houston (but moving soon to Big 12), St. Mary's and Texas Southern.  Similar to last year when Coach scheduled that opening night game with a very good Colorado State team (also in the NCAA tournament).

If the St. Mary's game is November 7 then that must be the opening night matchup.  That is a long bus ride to California, too!  I was wrong about Mills limiting games to within bus rides.

The Gaels have an interesting team: one 7'4 guy and another 7'1 player.  So, Connor will have his hands full the first night.  Plus, they have a guy from Estonia.  Wonder if Carlos knows him?  Cannot be too many players from Estonia in college basketball these days.

This such an important year for the program. It appears that Mills finally has the kind of players he needs to run his offense and play the kind of defense he originally wanted to run when he came here. I’m looking for a huge improvement on defense this year running the defense that was used at Baylor. The improved schedule is such a welcomed sight. I hope the higher level of competition in games and the increased competition for playing time will make this edition on Golden Eagles an incredibly tough contest for anyone we face. Let’s hope this year is a launching pad for even greater success.

Looking at these three teams that ORU scheduled yesterday, and they have some things in common: toughness, strong defense, and they all made it to the Big Dance last year.  So, we will see very early what the Golden Eagles are made of.

Great find, ORUAlum.

Gotta imagine this trip will involve more than one game on the West Coast, right?

San Francisco, Pacific, Santa Clara, Sacramento State, or even P5's Cal and Stanford are all in "NoCal".

Just don't make the same mistake NDSU did last season, leaving themselves only 24 hours to make something like a 400-mile trip from one Cali school to the other.

It's a big state; check out a map before adding another game in some place like San Diego... 😉

Looks like the Summit League Schedule has been released: ORU begins at home versus SDSU and then South Dakota before the Christmas break.  It seems like they just reversed the schedule from last year because then the Golden Eagles finish the season at South Dakota and SDSU.

Last year ORU started with 5 out of 7 on the road, which looked very tough, but they went 4-1.  This year they start with 5 out of 7 at home.  Guess there are plus and minuses to both schedules.  Hopefully the Eagles can start strong at home and build some momentum for the second half of the conference season.

Just looking ahead but the first two road games against Omaha and Denver are very winnable.   So ORU could easily start league play 6-1 or 7-0.
