Keenan Henderson
Tonight, begins the conference season for the Summit League. Throughout the season we can keep a watchful eye on the other teams and how they look in the Summit League. Interested to see how St. Thomas does in their opener against Omaha. A win able game for the former D3 squad.
Keenan Henderson
St. Thomas wins their first game in conference and lead by 23 at halftime on the road in Omaha. Looks like they are going to be a tough out, their first year in D1. Very impressive! SDSU blows out KC by 32 and just destroyed their tough defense by scoring 89. The game on Wednesday night with the Jackrabbits will be a shoot-out, first one to 90!
Old Titan
Big tilt in the Summit League tonight: South Dakota State at North Dakota State. I just don't see the Jackrabbits losing too many conference games this season; this is one of the few where they should be challenged. No word yet on SDSU leading-scorer Noah Freidel's status after mysteriously being benched last Saturday for the win over ORU in Brookings. Oh, and the current temperature in Fargo?
ORUTex
Not a great effort so far for the Bison, and apparently not much defense in Fargo tonight. SDSU up 48-37 at the half.
ORUTerry
NDSU was up 11-2 early…
Keenan Henderson
SDSU holds off the Bison by 4 tonight and that was without their leading scorer Noah Friedel. Impressive win for the Jackrabbits tonight. They may come to Tulsa at 16-0 in league play come February. Still have a tough one at Western Illinois but they are the team to beat in the Summit League this year.
vcboy2000
Definitely looking forward to playing them in Tulsa. We need the same home court treatment from the refs that they got. I expect nothing less than 25 free throws for us and 1 for them.
Keenan Henderson
St. Thomas is blowing out Western Illinois by 16 at the half and have lead by as much as 20. Crazy, who would have thought they would be so good their first year in D1? Their only conference loss was to Denver, who they lead by as many as 19 before losing on a buzzer beater. ORUTex
Western is a bit of an enigma. The surprise team early, and consensus top 4 in the league per all the ratings. But they've already lost to Omaha and St. Thomas.
EagleManiac
Maybe Western is not quite what we had hoped they were, but St. Thomas has been very impressive in their jump to D1. Nice addition to the league.
Keenan Henderson
Watched the second half of St. Thomas and WIU, which the Tommies win by 23! They put on a clinic and Western had no answers. St. Thomas has five guys on the floor who are all basically guards that can: dribble, pass, drive and shoot the ball at a high level. It is textbook basketball at its finest. How will ORU matchup with that? Western had a lot of size but could not keep up with the Tommies. ORUJason
We basically play a 4-5 guard lineup all the time. If anyone can match up with the Tommies, we can.
Eaglefan 21
The TOMMIES have a bunch of seniors. Does anyone know if they will all be back with the Covid eligibility waivers? If so, they will have a stacked team next year. I think they have a 4* guard who signed with them for 2022-2023.
ORUTex
I found a great resource for tracking Summit scores and standings that I never realized was there. The Wikipedia page for the season has updated standings (with tiebreakers) and a matrix showing each team's record against each other conference team. Makes it really easy to track who's done what against whom. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021–22_Summit_League_men's_basketball_season (scroll down about halfway) Here's a current snapshot: Regular Season Conference Standings Conference Overall Rank Team Record Perecent Record Percent Tiebreaker 1 South Dakota State 3-0 1.000 12-4 .750 2 Oral Roberts 3-1 .750 9-6 .600 3 St. Thomas 2-1 .500 7-7 .500 4 North Dakota State 1-1 .500 9-5 .643 Kansas City 1-1 .500 6-6 .500 6 Omaha 1-2 .333 2-12 .143 Ahead of Western Illinois and Denver based on win percentage in the group 7 Western Illinois 1-2 .333 10-5 .667 Ahead of Denver based on Head-to-Head win percentage 8 Denver 1-2 .333 5-11 .313 9 North Dakota 0-1 .000 4-10 .286 Ahead of South Dakota based on # of losses 10 South Dakota 0-2 .000 7-6 .538 Conference Matrix[edit] Denver Kansas City Omaha North Dakota North Dakota State Oral Roberts St. Thomas South Dakota South Dakota State Western Illinois vs. Denver – 1-0 0-1 1-0 vs. Kansas City – 0-1 1-0 vs. Omaha – 1-0 1-0 0-1 vs. North Dakota – 1-0 vs. North Dakota State 0-1 – 1-0 vs. Oral Roberts 0-1 0-1 – 0-1 1-0 vs. St. Thomas 1-0 0-1 – 0-1 vs. South Dakota 1-0 1-0 – vs. South Dakota State 0-1 0-1 0-1 – vs. Western Illinois 0-1 1-0 1-0 –
EagleManiac
Thanks for the heads up Tex. This is a great resource and I'm sure takes a lot of time for whoever is doing it. It would almost be worth pinning that on the board and keeping it updated as the season plays out.
Keenan Henderson
Omaha puts up 98 tonight and handles North Dakota by 16. Shows how much better teams play at home. After that game on Saturday against ORU who would have thought they would score like that?
