Kevin Obanor

KO makes the All-Tournament team at the Portsmouth Invitational but, even though he was the Player of the Game for two out of the three games played, Sir'Jabari Rice was named the MVP of the PIT.  Good showing by Kevin.  He's starting to let his hair down at the next level.....literally!

“Obanor is expected to be either a late second-round draft pick or an undrafted free agent because he lacks elite athleticism and isn’t outstanding in any one facet of the game.”

The Lakers can use him because they are a mess of a team and need level headed people.

Dr. Obanor would be a missionary to the country of Los Angeles.

He is going to make very good living overseas for the next decade. If he has the career that Caleb Green had it will be a great thing. Make $ 500k to $1 million a year with limited taxes would be nice.

He could have probably started that career two years ago when he decided to leave ORU and go to Texas Tech because he wasn't going to be drafted in the NBA.  He had his college degree and Texas Tech's money was taxable at US rates.

That being said, you're correct that he should make a nice living across the pond(s) and have an opportunity to create a nice nest egg for his, and his family's, future.

I heard, from what I consider to be a reliable source, that he got $250K in NIL money from Tech.  At that level of compensation, it was probably worth taking a chance that he could improve his NBA prospects by playing at Tech for another year or two.  Taxes are always a consideration as you point out.

Former Texas Tech basketball standout Kevin Obanor reportedly signs deal with Raptors (lubbockonline.com)

Signs a one year with minimum NBA salary of $953,000. Good for him.

From what I understand, there is no guaranteed money with these contracts, but usually a bonus of up to $50K if the player is eventually waived.  It's a good way for Kevin to show his worth to the Raptors, who obviously saw something in him that they liked.

Big shoutout to KO for becoming a Raptor (not just a summer squad member)!

KO is still on an Exhibit 10 contract but is going to training camp. Raptors current roster shows 19 guys, the players listed on the roster are signed to a contract, most guaranteed but not all, and includes Marques Nowell from Kansas St who is signed to a 2-way deal. The Exhibit 10 contract guys are not included on the roster and there are several of them.  An NBA roster is 15 players with 2, 2-way contract players, KO will be battling for 1 possible roster spot with the guys in camp and anyone released by other teams in the future that the Raptors may like, teams usually bring new guys into camp even once it's started.

Still very long odds, but he's taking the next step in his journey. Keep fighting Kevin, you're one step closer!!

Raptors Add Mouhamadou Gueye as Training Camp Invitees

Story by Aaron Rose  2h ago

Mouhamadou Gueye appears to have turned some heads in the Toronto Raptors front office thanks to a strong showing at Summer League last month.

The 25-year-old forward has joined the team as a training camp invitee, the Raptors announced Tuesday. He joins Kevin Obaner on an Exhibit 10 training camp contract and Garrett Temple on a minimum contract whose contract all became official.

I would love to sport some Obanor Raptor swag. I hope he makes the team (and not just for that reason 😎😁🙏).
