ORUTerry
Very good interview with Coach Mills highlights: * Mills said that statistically speaking (defense/offense), our best lineup last year was: Abmas, Jurgens, Lacis, Weaver and Thompson * The players are really focused this year - especially on defense. * The interviewers were focused on Phipps since he transferred from OU. Mills said they had to tell Trey to stop practicing so much this summer because he was wearing his body down. Phipps and Abmas are roommates. * Mills said that he saw a difference in Max’s game when he came back from NBA tryouts.
Keenan Henderson
If ORU plays defense this year like that did in March, then it should be an exciting year! Glad to hear they are so dialed in on defense in preseason practice. That will be the key. Of course they can race a team to 85, as they often did last year, but the Eagles are at their best when the defense is on point. ORU could start: Max, Carlos, Kareem, DJ, and Francis this year. At least until Lufile gets into playing shape (say 20 minutes a game). Not the biggest team but still very effective.
theeagleman5
Hummmm....that best line up statistically above is interesting in that it does NOT include Kevin Obanor.....i guess we should be glad he transferred to Texas Tech...... LOL. Obviously a joke, but it IS very interesting that Kevin didn't make the cut. I also would not have guessed that Lacis would be included in the "best" lineup to be honest. Hard to know what "best statistically" really means. And that lineup was used so rarely relative to the entire season that it's hard to imagine enough of a sample size for it to really be applicable. Surprising nonetheless.
ORU40
That's coach speak for were focusing on this year's team with the guys we have. If that was really his "best statistically" line up last year why did he play KO 40 minutes a game in the tourney where he was our best scorer and rebounder. Coach is just moving on and pumping up this years team like he's supposed to do.
theeagleman5
Yeah....TheEagleman loves Obanor.
vcboy2000
Also KO displayed attitude of toughness down low. That factor is hard to quantify but it shows up in wins for sure.
Old Titan
Coach Mills taking the "all is not lost; next man up" attitude re: Kevin's departure: he's no way suggesting KO's loss won't be felt; just reminding there are still arrows in the quiver.

Agree with this. Mills is saying we have to move on and that the guys we have can contribute. No hint of disrespect towards Kevin. He was obviously a big factor in our success last year. The key is to find the right combination of players to replace his contribution in rebounding & scoring.
Old Titan
One side note re: the interviews with Mills and Abmas on "The Blitz" 1430: who should break the news to interviewer Dan Hawk that Trey Phipps will doubtfully see the kind of playing time he (Hawk) seems to envision? LOL. I noticed that. Dan put Max and Trey on the same pedestal and it almost seemed like Coach didn't really know how to respond. Who knows. Maybe he knows something we don't. Dr. Cornelius
Probably just playing up the "local kid makes good angle." Which makes sense, Phipps was a well known HS player in the Tulsa area.
Keenan Henderson
Love Trey's excitment about the game and season, willingly to do three workouts a day! He must really love the game of basketball. Yeah unless their are some injuries in the backcourt, I would be surprised if he gets more than 10 minutes of playing time per game. Phipps is another guard who should be a key piece in a year or two. Would not be surprised if he and Bergmens are not a solid duo before their time is up at ORU.
