Summit Commish Douple To Retire October 1st

16-year Summit League Commissioner Tom Douple has announced his retirement effective October 1st.  The Presidents’ Council has appointed deputy commissioner Myndee Kay Larsen as the interim commissioner.

The timing and immediacy of this move is stunning; considering that's just six weeks notice and right before basketball season starts.

Something just does not sound right here; hope it's not health-related...

Wow - what an underwhelming choice. The guy only has experience with hockey - not basketball or even baseball. He’s one dimensional. Summit League strikes (out) again.

I'm confident that by this time next year you will change you mind.  This guy is legit and I hope you give the guy the chance.  Yeah the NCHC was a hockey conference but does that really matter that much when it comes to league management?  The NCHC has been the best conference in the country and in comparison to Summit basketball, game attendance, program budgets, and the conference tournaments are comparable.

Everyone in the NCHC loved the guy and it is a super well run league.  He was able to put together a legit pro-style bubble last year, had experience running a conference tournament in similar size to the Summit basketball tournament, league has best referees in country, made deal with CBS Sports for nationally televised games.  He built a steaming app for the conference rather than handing everything off to Flo Sports, and the streaming service he built is legit, with Roku, Apple, and Fire Apps, and most of the money actually goes back to the schools.

In regard to TV, basketball is a different animal and ESPN is the best way to go.  I could see him actually getting some of our league games on to ESPN U at least.
