New Roster

The new roster is on the ORU website for 21-22.  I am not sure how to download it and paste it on the sports forum.   Anyway the surprising news is that no one used their free year from the Covid season.  Even Lufile is listed as a senior, even through he missed his junior year.  Also Max is still listed as 6'1 (5'11 at the combine)!

Good find, Keenan.  I don't know if the class (junior/senior, etc.) year on the roster designates academic standing or eligibility, as the two are always a bit confusing (and even more so now with the COVID year waiver rules).  I also don't know if a student-athlete has to declare whether he/she is waiving last year, or whether it only comes into play when the full four years of play have been completed.  We will see as time progresses.

It will also be interesting to see whether ORU designates any red-shirts this year.  Last season, there were no red-shirts (since the year didn't officially count), but they should be a consideration this year.  True freshmen Sic Issac Herron, Elijah Lawrence, and Luka Tekavcic would be the most likely candidates, but Sir Issac and Luka are also the two tallest players on the roster...

Looks like Trey Phipps is still listed as a freshman, so he would seem to be a player who used the free year.

15 players are listed. That includes Alexandre - who is a preferred walk on player. That leaves 14. With only 13 scholarships available. Both Plet and Lufile are on the roster, as well as Bergens.

9 out of the 15 guys are underclassmen.  So that gives ORU hope that they continue to be very good for quite some time.  McBride is a very good prospect and he has already played a full year in the SEC and had some impressive numbers (16 points vs Mississippi).  With Carlos and Max back at the guard positions it will be interesting to see how Coach Mills gets him enough minutes each game, say 20-25.

You can play those 3 together pretty easily as so many teams play 3 guards now. Even if they play a small forward type he will be able to handle that as well. McBride would be fine against most guards also.

I think if a player is playing an extra year due to Covid then their scholarship might not count against the 13 player limit.  Is that correct?

Now the ORU website has put a new note on the roster saying that they went ahead and updated the players status (year- freshman, sophmore, etc.) but they still have the option to use that free covid season when they are seniors.  Noticed that other leagues are also doing this such as the Big 12.

Besides Max, Lufile may be the most important part of the roster for the new season.  He has got to stay healthy and out of foul trouble this year.  Otherwise, the Eagles will depending a lot on Clover and Sir Isaac.  Both these young guys can hold their own on the defensive end but the offensive end is still the question mark.

The ORU website is now reporting that Lufile is 6'7 and 295!  He is ready for ORU football tryouts.  It also looks like Kareem is up 15 pounds to 205.  The weight training must be working.  Now the new guys need to pick it up some.  Luka is listed at 6'11 and 200 and Sir Isaac at 6'9 and 210 pounds.

Lufile at 295.  Wow!  That I assume would be heavier than Marcus Lewis from many years back.  That would be a load.
