21-22 Schedule

Wow that is quite an opening game!  Colorado State is probaly the favorite in the Mountain West Conference and maybe a borderline top 25 team.  It's about 2 and half hours from Colorado Springs so a little far to drive but hope to go to the Denver game this year!

Hopefully this is an indication there will be less NAIA and D2 schools on the OOC schedule.

I think they are still struggling to find opponents to fill the schedule. Especially away/money games. No one wants to pay for a game and possibly lose. I expect to see one or two D-2 opponents at home unless the staff can arrange/convince schools to come to the Mabee Center.

The CSU Rams are a very tough team to open against on the road.....this will be a challenge.....hoping this is a home and home series and CSU will return the game in 2022 at Mabee Center.....maybe we can do a home/home with Arkansas-Pine Bluff since our old coach is over there now.....:circle-logoi:

Helps to have experienced guards when you open on the road at a competitive opponent like CSU; don't be surprised if Jurgens logs more minutes than McBride - or even (gasp) Max - if foul trouble and the altitude take their toll.

And then there's THIS tweet:  if that fine type on the left is correct, ORU plays AT Houston Baptist on December 4th:

And if you're wondering (and, reasonably so) why ORU might risk a road loss to a perennial bottom-feeder in the NET ratings like Houston Baptist, just consider that the Rice Owls are risking the very same fate just a week later in HBU's Sharp Gym (...never a good idea to play ANYONE who's facility is called a "gym" - lol).

Yup - at HBU.

HBU will then play a stretch of four consecutive home games, beginning with Southwestern Adventist on Nov. 29 followed by Oral Roberts on Dec. 4. Champion Christian then visits on Dec. 7 before Rice comes to Sharp Gym on Dec. 11 right before finals. The Huskies will then head to Miami, Fla. to face FIU on Dec. 21 before a break for Christmas and then ring in the new year at home against Ecclesia on Jan. 3.

CSU vs. ORU is a very solid entertaining matchup.....maybe one of the ESPN channels with pick it up?....:shield-logo:

I assume that HBU will reciprocate and play us at the Mabee Center next year. Houston is certainly a place that we recruit heavily, so any exposure we can get will be good. Just need to make sure we win the game.

Houston Baptist came to the Mabee Center two years ago, so this may just be a return trip for the Golden Eagles.  Plus we have quite a few guys from the Houston area (DJ, Sir Isaac, Nate Clover, and Elijah Lawrence) and now their family can come and watch them live and in action.

Wonder if we have ever considered organizing a tournament (classic/4 teams over two days) that would rotate locations. Teams (besides ORU) could include Liberty, Grand Canyon, Valpo, BYU, Baylor, Notre Dame, etc.

Oh, heavens no (pun intended).

Too many snarky religious angles for the Millennium-heavy college basketball talking heads & podsters to tee off from.

I cringe at the possibility of lead-in lines to their game stories, most of them playing on the words "prayer", "miracle", "savior", "offering", "holy war", "honor code", etc.

Wiser to curry Sweet Sixteen-style secular publicity instead, by simply beating whoever else is in that particular tourney field.

It would be nice if there was a local tournament like the All-College. ORU and TU should work together to try to bring in two quality opponents.
