TrueBlue82
This is turning out to be a banner year for ORU to make its mark on the NCAA statistics list. Through games of yesterday, ORU as a team ranks: #2 in 3 pt FGM/game (11.6) #7 in 3 pt FGA (424) #35 in 3 pf FG % (38.4%) #5 in FT % (80.8%) #17 in Scoring Offense (points per game) (83.4) And individually: Kevin Obanor is #7 in double/doubles (7) KO (88.6%) and Max (88.2%) are #40 and #41 in free throw % KO is #25 in FT made (62) Max is #12 in 3pt FGM/game (3.38) Max is 15th (21.5) and Kevin is 33rd (20.2) in points per game, and are the only teammates in the country to both be averaging over 20 points per game. Great recognition for the ORU basketball program!
ORUJason
Those statistics are impressive. Kevin and Max have developed well under this coaching staff and are making significant veteran contributions for this team.

Keenan Henderson
K.O. and Max's stats are even better than Green and Tuit's numbers from their best year together (03-04). That year Tuit averaged 21 points and 2 assists and Green averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds. Compared to Max's 22 points and 3 assists and K.O.'s 20 points and 10 rebounds. Very impressive! oruvoice
Are we comparing the same Caleb Green and Ken Tutt, that went to the NCAA tourney twice and the NIT once? The same Caleb Green and Ken Tutt that had wins over Kansas, Georgetown, Southern Cal, Seton Hall, Wichita State, St. Louis, Tulsa (multiple times), among others? We're comparing that Caleb Green and Ken Tutt to two dudes that are currently 7-8 vs. D-1 opponents and will likely finish the season below .500? Mind numbing. theeagleman5
You have to admit, Voice....it's very close....just like Ken Trickey has a "narrow edge" over Paul Mills.....
Keenan Henderson
We all know Green and Tuit are better players because they put up those kind of numbers for four years in a row, whereas K.0. and Max have only had one incredible year together. Just saying that for one year it is still impressive.

Caleb Green was a three-time MidCon Player of the Year, a three-time AP honorable mention All-American, and the 2007 CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Player of the Year, among other things. Ken Tutt was a three-time 1st Team all-conference selection, Mid-Con tournament MVP, 2004 Mid-Con Newcomer of the Year, 2004 Basketball Hall of Fame Top 3-Point Shooter in all the land, and the 2004 CollegeInsider.com Freshman of the Year, among other things. All four players are really good, but can we at least finish this already-abbreviated season before getting too carried away with the comparisons? Old Titan
BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: For the record, neither Caleb Green nor Ken Tutt ever scored 40 points in a game, much less against a top-flight opponent. Max Abmas tonight dropped a casual 42 on preseason Summit League favorite South Dakota State, on just 14-of-20 shooting (5-of-8 from three) and 9-of-10 from the free throw line, and he left the game with 2 minutes to go. The legend is growing!
Keenan Henderson
Do not forget, because of this one game, now Max is better then Michael Jordan, Lebron James, and Kobe Bryant combined. No one can dispute that! (lol)
ORUTerry
As I recall, Abmas was going to be our point guard/floor leader. He was a decent shooter in high school, but the plan was to use him at point. At least that’s how I remember it

He’s simply an undersized “two”, but a REALLY GOOD undersized “two”.
Idig32
Abmas is second in the country in scoring, according to sports-reference.com, at 23.0 points per game. His shooting percentages are insane. He’s shooting about 43% from 3, and 52% from 2. His 3 point shooting is truly incredible if you dig a little deeper. I couldn’t find a complete list of all player stats beyond the top ten in each category, but no one who was top ten in 3 point attempts was also top ten in percentage. However, Max Abmas is very near the top ten in both categories. His 153 attempts puts him only 3 below the tenth most attempts in the country, while his 43% on those attempts is only 2 percentage points below the tenth best. I’m not going to compare him with any greats, but what he is doing is something that doesn’t happen very often, and I am glad to be able to witness it.
TrueBlue82
With 16 three point shots made in each game over the weekend, ORU has vaulted over The Citadel (pun intended ), to become the #1 team in Division 1 for three pointers per game. I report this as a fact, not necessarily as a congratulations, as too much reliance on three point shots is not a recipe for assured success (we don’t need to look far for confirmation, as the two weekend games with 16 made 3pt field goals resulted in a 17 point win and a 15 point loss). Nonetheless, it is always interesting to be ranked #1 in the country, and proves that ORU does have a cadre of long range shooters in their arsenal, including one (Mid-court Max) who is an elite long range scorer. Eaglefan 21
Max is now 2nd in the country in scoring behind only Luka Garza, so impressive!
Keenan Henderson
As you may know by now, Max just won his first Summit League player of the week award and ORU's first ever Mid Major player of the week award. If he stays another two years then truely the sky is the limit for Max!

If he stays another two years then truely the sky is the limit for Max! According to the ORU press release, this is the first Lou Henson POW Award since Dominique Morrison in 2011. I also believe that past ORU players have won other mid-major national weekly awards from other publications. This is not meant to diminish the award for Max, just to mention that it is not unprecedented. In actuality, Max has THREE years remaining, since this year does not count towards eligibility. Whether he would want to do that (depending on whether he would like to earn a Master's degree and/or whether he thinks he has enough experience to succeed in professional basketball, etc.) is another story. A player's status is going to require some new terminology next year. For example, KO is a redshirt junior this year - will he be a redshirt COVID junior next year???
