Arkansas-ORU

Time to finish up the non-conference season.  Tough matchup for the Eagles.  Razorbacks have not been tested but still are very deep, talented, and have great size.  K.O. will have his hands full with their 7'3 center.  They specialize in shutting down three point shooting.  May be a long afternoon on Sunday.

Yea if we keep the score under 25 it would be a moral victory unless of course we shoot 60% from the 3. The same ol strategy on a different day usually equals the same results! I wonder if the coaches read these posts?

Hogs a 19 pt favorite with an O/U of 153.5. TheEagleman expects some scoring in this one so will likely go with Arkansas and the Over....UA 88 ORU 68. 🏀

Shocking first few minutes of this game:  ORU aggressive and opportunistic offensively, eschewing first-option threes for strong drives to the rim and getting to the free throw line (though missing too many), while holding their own defensively against a Razorback roster that is taller than some NBA teams.

This may still end up being a blowout once the Hogs wake up, but this is easily the best ORU has looked thus far against D1 competition this year, because they are playing a different (I.e. winning) style of basketball than in previous games.

ORU playing great and up 40-30.  K.O. has 12 points and 7 rebounds and has given their 7'3 guy, Vanover, a lot of trouble.  Max and RJ have 3 fouls and we know Arkansas will make a run in the second half.  Exciting game!

Arkansas had 57 in the second half.

The Hogs are a talented team but that’s ridiculous.

No manner of offensive effort can overcome giving up 57 points in the second half.

When will this coaching staff learn that certain situations warrant playing defense via a ball-control offense?  That’s how you protect a lead against a sleeping giant when they start to wake up!

Nothing but quick perimeter shots, no more working to get to the line, turnovers, too many fouls, not enough timeouts called, etc. all leading to an avalanche of scoring by the Hogs.

So frustrating; this Arkansas team was ripe for an upset; missed a golden opportunity by losing the tempo battle in the second half.

This game was a summary of the non conference season: up and down.  At times ORU looks really good and at times they really struggle.  At times the Eagles look like they could be a top 2 team in the Summit and then at times they look like an average/subpar Summit league team.  That may be a sign of things to come.    Some improvements were: more blocked shots and steals agaisnt a D1 team then we have seen this year.  Lack of rebounding (-26) and second chance points was the big difference in the second half. Arkansas had at least three offensive rebounds off of missed free throws.  Besides K.O., who can really rebound?

TheEagleman will have to watch the game on DVR....sounds frustrating. Saw we were up 10 at half then fell apart. Guess ORU doesnt know how to slow things down. 😳

Now ORU gets a long break to enjoy the holidays.  Overall, I thought the Eagles got what they needed out of the non-conference schedule: the new guys got some playing time, they played some tough teams, and had some warm up home games.  Now the fun starts: conference play.  Some questions that need to be answered: can they show some variety on offense (like we saw in the first half vs Hogs), how will they handle back to back games, and will the bigs recover from injuries by early 2021 (hopefully)?  Everybody have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The game on Saturday was so close yet so far away as the saying goes. The Golden Eagles proved they have enough talent to hang with a power 5 school but so far cannot figure out how to fight to the end and win a game within their reach. Hopefully the coaching staff can figure this out in 2021 and impart this to the players. May all of you have a wonderful Christmas Season with your loved ones!

Good non-conference season. 0 D1 wins.

During the first half, ORU was getting killed on the boards, but still took a ten point lead into the locker room by winning the FG%, giving away fewer turnovers, and scoring more points at the charity stripe.  To win the game, I figured that ORU needed to even the second half rebound count and win at least one of the other three categories (FG%, TO, FT).   Instead, the rebounding deficit continued, and ORU lost all three of the key categories, leading to a major collapse.  Turnovers were especially costly, as they led to easy shots for the Hogs in transition.

it was the result that we all expected coming into the game, but certainly left me thinking “woulda, coulda, shoulda” as to what COULD have happened.  Nonetheless, I think this team is ready for Summit play, and needs a strong weekend to begin the season in Omaha.  We can’t win the title on the first weekend, but we could sure lose it.

Try to see the bright side and the glass as half full. I mean, we could have been 0-7 in the non-conference, instead of 0-5, if not for the Kung Flu.

And, those wins over Will Rogers College, Southwestern Christian Tech, and Bacone JC, were very exciting! GOLD STANDARD!

It seems like Jones could've helped with the rebounding some?  Not very many played and a lot of minutes for those who did.
