Wayne "World B" Otto

Very sad to learn of the passing of Wayne Otto, aka "World B. Otto", from cancer on Monday.

Wayne has been a fixture around ORU Athletics for decades, in a variety of adjunct roles.  In terms of men's basketball, he was a pipeline of North Carolina talent for Scott Sutton, helping to land a number of players.  He was also a huge ORU baseball fan, as this article highlights:

Wayne had a dry, quirky sense of humor that always proved entertaining.  If you didn't know him, think "Mike Leach" and you'll get a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about.  And, always giving of his time, even if you were a stranger.  They don't make 'em like "World B" anymore.  Not sure, but I think former ORU assistant and current Booker T. head coach Conley Phipps may have given Wayne the nickname.  For you youngsters, "World B" is an homage to gunner Lloyd "World B" Free of the old Philadelphia 76ers (and other) teams, and possibly due to the fact that ORU coaches and teams were never surprised to see Wayne leaning over the rail at games being played in the most far-off places.  He might be one of very few ORU fans in attendance in some true backwater stops.

Wayne will definitely be missed; if you have a "World B" story, please add it here.
