Old Titan
Here's what finishing ninth-out-of-eight gets you: Billy Wright Out at Western Illinois Local names to consider, assuming any of them want back in-the-game so badly they would take one of the worst jobs in Division 1: Sean Sutton Scott Sutton Barry Hinson Cory Williams any current assistant at TU (seems like they all have previous head coaching experience) Plus, Kyan Brown, former ORU and current NDSU assistant coach, and Bob Hoffman, current head coach at UCO in Edmond and formerly of Mercer and Pan-American. Old Titan
Geez, of all the times to announce a college basketball move... The NABC conference for college basketball coaches was cancelled along with the Final Four that hosts it, so it's not like there was some urgency to take the classic path of getting this out now in order to schedule interviews with candidates there. Plus, in-person recruiting is on hiatus till April 1st for almost every conference in the land, so no hurry in that regard, though I get the feeling Grand Canyon doesn't feel like the rules apply to them the way they do for every other school. So, why the need to make this announcement on what amounts to a national day of mourning for college basketball (and sports in general) on Thursday, March 12th, 2020? My theory: classic "take out the trash" strategy, hoping no one will notice the firing amidst all the other sturm und drang of the day. Ironically, it turns out to be one of the few college basketball news items to talk about heading into a hoops-free weekend. Sports talk radio in that area (and college basketball pundits and scribes nationally) might be doing entire segments or stories on it, for lack of anything else to cover. I'm guessing GC will go for another flashy hire; perhaps another former NBA player with AAU connections, like Memphis did with Penny Hardaway. Saw on Twitter that Rick Pitino is a name that has come up......
Dr. Cornelius
Jerry Colangelo will probably be able to help GCU punch above their weight when selecting a new candidate.

ORUIllini
Bryce Drew to GCU. Seems like a pretty good hire for a Mid-major. Be nice to see an ORU-GCU match up in WAC-Summit challenge next year.

Not exactly the splash they were probably looking for; Drew was fired from Vanderbilt one year ago after going 9-23 overall and 0-18 in the SEC. But, he's got the name, and fits the mold at GCU. Ten years ago, I could imagine Scott Sutton being a candidate for this job as well, for basically the same reasons. It is odd, however, that they made this hire with an interim AD. Why not fill that position first, and let that guy hire his own basketball coach? Now, it's going to be a shotgun wedding for the new AD and Drew; that's not good for Bryce if he gets off to a slow start.

Western Illinois not only fired there coach but had their top three players transfer. So whoever they hire will have his hands full. Another finish at the bottom of the Summit League. ORUIllini
Minnesota assistant Rob Jeter is getting hired. Was also head coach at UW-Milwaukee for quite a few years.
