ORU GRAD
Summit is off and running with Western Illinois beating South Dakota 82-75 and South Dakota State going down at Omaha with last second shot. Wow, what a start to the league with North Dakota State winning over Denver 66-55. We play South Dakota State and Omaha next Thursday and Saturday. These two games on the road are vital to a good start in league play.
Old Titan
Omaha was favored by one at home today, so... This is not the same SDSU team that Summit League followers are used to: new coach, new players, etc. Plus, they are dealing with injuries to their starting point guard and their best guard off the bench. The win by the Leathernecks is another story; Western has some good young talent that is still trying to figure things out. USD lives and dies on 3’s, so they are always going to be a risky proposition on the road. NDSU is still the team to beat; their workman-like effort at Denver today is evidence of that. Keenan Henderson
South Dakota is a surprise. They have lost three in a row to teams they have should have beat. We will see if they can turn things around or if the struggle is for real. Cannot seem to slow teams down defensively.

Plus, if they don’t make threes, they have trouble scoring.
theeagleman5
ORU is going to win at Brookings on Thursday night......
Old Titan
SDSU is 8-0 at home this season, albeit against weak competition. ORU’s record vs. SDSU since returning to the Summit from the Southland is 1-10, and 0-fer in Brookings. Paul Mills is 0-4 vs. the Jackrabbits, and ORU under his direction has yet to win a road game in the Dakotas. Thursday night could be a real eye-opener, one way or the other. ORUTerry
They also shoot the ball a lot better at home... which is to be expected.

Night in and night out, it’s been the toughest place to win in the league for a decade. Notoriously biased officiating; typically at least two of the three refs will have called several SDSU games already, and none for ORU. ORUTerry
That’s what I fear. We are a physical team and the refs can punish us if they favor a more finesse style of play
TrueBlue82
Big New Year's Day match-up this afternoon with USD at Fort Wayne. The Coyotes are 1.5 point favorites, so this one could go either way (on paper). If USD comes out of the blocks at 0-2 with road losses at teams projected for the lower half of the league, it could seriously impact their contender status. As the old adage goes, "you don't win Championships on the first weekend of the season, but you can sure lose them"...
TrueBlue82
USD blows a 12 point halftime lead and loses by 11 at Fort Wayne. Tough 0-2 conference start for the Coyotes.
ORUTerry
Interesting. Fort Wayne out rebounds the Coyotes by 12 (39 to 27) and shot a bit better from the field and 3-point line.
Old Titan
I watched the second half on YouTube; pretty sluggish game with lots of fouls and lackluster defense. Wasn‘t very impressed with either team. I had forgotten what a tool the USD coach is. He’s the one who tried to distract ORU’s free throw shooters in the first half at the Mabee Center last year by stepping into the floor and clapping at them right as they shot. Never seen anything like it from a college coach.
