Sixteen turnovers a game kind of jumps out at ya.

Three 6-8 starters, and a +8 rebound margin - foul situation between the teams' front lines may loom large.

Ken Pomeroy has the two teams ranked at #139 and #140, so It's a virtual toss-up on paper.  And, with the students gone and a 1pm Saturday tip during the holidays, any home court advantage is negligible.

My question is, if ORU insists on shooting so many threes every game, can they hit anything close to what they did in Chicago, assuming this opponent will at least try to defend the arc?

I'm inclined to say the team with the best 3-point shooting percentage in the game wins it, but again - those pesky turnovers...

Hard to pick a winner -- just gonna have to show up and see what happens.

This would be a nice win for ORU. Missouri State has played a more balanced schedule - not as many dogs. Given our schedule and players in/out of the roster, it really is hard to get a read on this team. I think it is important for us to pound the ball inside and determine which players are shooting well from the outside and go with them. Let's hope Abmas is shooting well... and if not, that he backs off. That goes with any other player that is not shooting well.

Missouri State plays tough defense (64 points allowed per game), rebounds well and likes to grind games out. Look for a close one in the 60s on Saturday. So that raises the question: who does ORU expect to hit the big shots in crutch time?  They have not really been in that position this year and with Eman still about 75% it might have be another senior such as Burns or Kearns. This will help the Golden Eagles get ready for conference play by learning to win tight games.

One thing ORU is NOT lacking is guys who aren’t afraid to shoot the ball.

Abmas, Kearns, Fuqua, Lacis, Lazenby, Obanor, even Saunders all have quick triggers and no lack of confidence (even if misplaced).

ORU has, in fact, been in a tight game at the end where shot selection was paramount, and it illustrates the point above:  trailing by three in the final minute at Oklahoma State and needing a bucket of ANY kind, Obanor went “hero ball” from behind the arc up top, and got his shot blocked by the OSU big man. Empty possession, never got that close again in the remaining time.

Here’s hoping there’s more of a plan now for the closing minutes than there was in that season-opener.

Its a shame that the most attractive out of conference game of the season has been scheduled for the Saturday before Christmas.....few students attending and a lot of people will probably be doing last minute shopping and Christmas preparation...oh well....TheEagleman still thinks that it's always better to play in our home building and the friendly rims of Mabee Center.....Missouri State is a solid 6-6 and a decent team but I still like our chances......expecting ORU to be a small favorite and E-Man and KO should have good games....need Abmas and Burns to stand tall also.....expecting this one to be a close back and forth affair but in the end ORU will find a way to pull it out......ORU 71  Missouri State 67.....GO BLUE!!!...:tb-blue:

At least it's being played in the afternoon.

I'm not sure there would be much of a crowd at ANY time, but there's no question that 1:00 pm is more convenient for most die-hard ORU fans than a 7:00 pm tip (plus, this way it's also not competing for local TV and print coverage with the BOK Showdown doubleheader Saturday night, featuring OSU vs. Minnesota and TU vs. Colorado State).

And, it gets an older Missouri State fan base back to Springfield before it's too late in the evening.  Don't be surprised if the blue-haired Bear followers are all over Section M behind the MSU bench, spilling over into Section L and the virtually-empty ORU student sections.

Looking forward to a good test today.  Our family will be driving in for this one.  Christmas shopping is done, so we're coming just for the game. Hope our Eagles bring their A-game.  This could go a long ways in establishing more team confidence against a solid opponent, certainly the best in several weeks.  Let's go Eagles!

I notice that this game will be carried on KGEB in Tulsa but only livestreamed on the Athletic Department's website.  That means that anyone in Tulsa can stay home and watch on TV while those of us who live nowhere near either Tulsa or even Oklahoma will have to try and view the game over a bush league feed that freezes about every 50 seconds and becomes annoying enough that you eventually give up and quit watching.  These games used to be carried on ESPN even if it was ESPN 3 or ESPN+.  The good news for all of us who watch AND FINANCIALLY SUPPORT the Athletic Department from afar is that on the ESPN sites we can at least watch the events.  With the "livestream" quality the Athletic Department is using this year coupled with the option of going on KGEB TV,  your current course of action is killing your fanbase for those who do not live close to Tulsa.  I do not know who decided to go away from ESPN, but it was a really stupid move.  Sorry for the rant.

Gotta shoot better than 14% from downtown if we’re going win this game.  Too many open shots given up in the first half.  We are a much better team when we take our game inside

Great second half from ORU and good to see K.O. looking like an all star again (19 and 12 rebounds).  Max was brilliant and hit some big shots down the stretch. They also dominated the boards by 13! Way to go team and Coach Mills.

Holy cow, what an entertaining game - BIG BOY BASKETBALL!

Easily the game of the year so far, and arguably Paul Mills’ best career win.

More details later...gotta go get some stocking stuffers. 🎅

Totally agree.  SOLID win for the good guys, with major contributions from a variety of players.  Playing like that, this team will contend for the Summit.

I did not get to the game and saw on phone that we won and must say I was surprised. I knew we played good at Chicago State but astonished we played 7 players and no Lacis, Lazenby  or Jones. I am assuming Lacis still out with ankle and of course Fuqua. However, saw Lufile only played sixteen minutes so I am guessing foul trouble. However a great home win and good progress going into league play in January. I would like some input from those at the game. Go Eagles!

From the Missouri State site............... The turning point in the game came with 14:06 to go when the Golden Eagles overtook a 49-47 MSU lead with a traditional 3-point play from Obanor that sparked an 8-2 run by the home side over the next three minutes. The Bears chipped away to get the deficit to 55-53 on a layup by Hall and 56-55 on a pair of Mosley free throws, but the Golden Eagles amped things up down the stretch, and the Bears never led again.

With 9:25 to go, Prim scored from up close to make it a 60-57 contest, but the Bears would go the next five-plus minutes without a field goal. During that drought, ORU was either picking up free throws or dropping in improbable shots, including a trey by Abmas to push the home side up by 10 for the first time with just over five minutes to play.

Abmas was 7-of-8 from the field in the second half and 4-of-5 from long range in that span to spark the Oral Roberts comeback. His efforts helped ORU shoot 59 percent in the final stanza while the home side converted 12-of-14 free throws over the game's last 20 minutes.

Golden Eagles only played seven guys but the starters were dominant.  Bench was outscored 36 to 3 by the Bears, whic is surprising because usually Coach relys a lot on the bench. Still waiting to see if Francis, RJ, and DJ are able to play by conference season.
