91jack
There is an artlcle in the Argus Leader today that is titled, "NCAA would be 'Receptive' to waiver request from St. Thomas. Tom Douple called action taken Wednesday as "a positive step forward". for both St Thomas and the league. "We will be working with both the NCAA and UST to make the formal waiver request and advance the process as expeditiously as possible". Now if everyone can just manage to actually play some games this season...
Old Titan
Well, fast-forward almost one full year from the last post on this thread, and "what in the ‘Wide, Wide World of Sports’ is a-goin' on here??" St. Thomas officially joining the Summit League July 1st, with conference basketball schedules released today featuring the Tommies with their new travel partner, Western Illinois. Augustana College in Sioux Falls gets a firm "No, thank you" regarding Summit League membership anytime in the near future. Few if any anticipated COVID restrictions across the league for the coming school year. The Summit League basking in the glory of their first Sweet Sixteen run in over 30 years by none other than that li'l ol' bible college from Oklahoma. A Summit League player invited to the NBA Combine in anticipation of being selected in the first round of the 2021 draft. UND hockey and Big Sky football still nowhere in the conference mix. Hey, does anyone know if St. Thomas has an online fan forum? I can't find one yet; just wanted to introduce myself...lol.
Hammersmith
Sounds like Augustana finally took the hint from the Summit League. They've announced they are starting a DI hockey team. Pretty sure that means they're no longer pursuing full-DI; too expensive to do both. NDSU did the opposite back around 2000. We were considering adding DI hockey, but the decision hinged on a Fargo public vote for a new hockey arena. When the vote failed, the hockey plans were shelved and we went to plan B, which was going full-DI.

Smarter to go that route anyway when UND had so much history and probably local attention.

Dr. Cornelius
St. Thomas gets another 4-star (out recruiting KU this time). St. Thomas will be a contender in the Summit VERY quickly.

ORUTerry
Must have really good recruiters. Have to think they are going after devout Catholic kids. Also not a lot of competition if players want to stay local.

Keenan Henderson
They are blessed! St. Thomas only has the the Gophers as a D1 rival for the high school stars in their state and they cannot all go to the Big U of M. The state of Minnesota has had a lot of really good ball players in the last few years, including the number one player Chet Holmgren. Starting in year two St. Thomas will be a handful in the Summit League.
ORUTerry
According to this story, St. Thomas will be eligible for NCAA championships in the 2026-27 school year. So they will not participate in Summit League post season tournaments until then Link: https://m.startribune.com/st-thomas-championship-opportunities-will-be-limited-for-five-years/571796572/
EagleManiac
Do they compete in conference tournaments then? What happens if they win the Summit tourney and then can represent in the NCAA tourney?

No, they won’t participate in any Summit post season tournaments that result in a NCAA berth until 2026-

Reading now. So these 4 star guys are committing with the knowledge that the best they can hope for in terms of a post season is the CBI or CIT tournies? They must have some unreal recruiting talent on that staff.
