theeagleman5
RHP Josh McMinn selected in round 27 (812th overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks......
ORUTex
Spencer Henson went in the 9th round (285 overall) to the Yankees. MLB.com's draft tracker has the "pick value" (signing bonus) at $148.90k for that slot. Here's all players from Oklahoma: https://www.mlb.com/draft/tracker/all/state/oklahoma
theeagleman5
So will Spencer Henson NOT be coming back for his senior season at ORU?....he will sign with the NYY???....
74Titan
Spencer is a decent player: power, average, and better speed than given credit for. Coming back for his final year gives Spencer another opportunity to become better acquainted with the strike zone. Doing this will cut down on Spencer's high strikeout ratio. One can be a power hitter without a lot of strikeouts. Ask Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and Albert Pujols (as a Cardinal). Coming back gives ORU an anchor for the team, both on and off the field. Coming back gives Spencer another year to work on his footwork around the bag at first base. Coming back also gives the team a chance to dominate the Summit League next season. This may all be a moot point if Spencer has already signed for $148K+. Another year of improvement by both the team and Spencer (they go hand in hand) might improve his stock in next year's draft. Again, Spencer may have already signed, rendering my point a moot one, at best.
Old Titan
He (and anyone else in his shoes) will (would/should) sign. Your value goes DOWN when you're a college senior, no matter how well you play. You have no leverage with the drafting team of staying in school like you do when you're a junior (or a high school senior). Would be SHOCKED if he came back - huge risk.
Old Titan
Yeah; he gone. Thanks for everything, Spencer - good luck in The Show!
Dr. Cornelius
The only downside... now I have to cheer for a Yankee
EagleManiac
Good for him. He earned this, had a heck of a season. Best of luck, Spencer.
Old Titan
Spencer Henson has been tearing it up in the rookie league for the Yankees, and has been promoted to their team in the "short season" single-A league (the bottom rung of three A-league levels). The cool part about the promotion is that he's playing for the Staten Island Yankees; just get a load of the view from their press box: Playing in Yankee pinstripes, and in THAT location? Pretty cool for a guy from Pryor who was playing college ball just 6 weeks ago! 1
ORUTerry
Yeah, he has really been in a groove. The Yankees have a nice farm system and seem to know how to develop players.
