Old Titan
I just saw this; sounds like it happened Tuesday: Corey did a great job as a recruiter on Scott Sutton's best ORU staff, though I think he gets credit some times for a couple of greats that Tom Hankins landed. Too bad things didn't work out for him at Stetson, but it can never be said they didn't give him a chance to get the job done: he averaged 22 losses a season for SIX years. Would not be surprised to see him as an assistant next year in the Big XII or another Power 5 conference.
theeagleman5
Join the club, Corey.....Stetson hasn't had a winning basketball coach in the past quarter century and has never made the NCAA Tournament......not sure why a good man like that would even take the job..... Dr. Cornelius
SIU Men's Basketball | In tearful goodbye, Hinson steps away from Salukis after 7 seasons Quote ST. LOUIS — Moments after SIU's men's basketball team lost its chance to win its first Missouri Valley Conference tournament in 13 years Friday night, it lost its coach, too. Barry Hinson, the dean of the Valley and fifth in conference history in league victories, stepped away from the Salukis in a tearful goodbye at the end of his postgame press conference. Third-seeded SIU lost to sixth-seeded Northern Iowa 61-58 in the final quarterfinal of the day at the Enterprise Center. Hinson did not say if he resigned or was fired during his goodbye, saying only "It is time for me to step away." The Southern Illinoisan reached out to SIU's sports information office Friday night. A rep from the department said it would have no further comment tonight...
ORUalum
Williams will have multiple P5 offers as an assistant like OT mentioned above; Hinson sounds like a man that knows he's done and is maybe looking to get into athletic administration at a league or school. Any rumblings up there of OSU moving on from Boynton and Sutton? They finished last in the league with a 4-13 record. Tough week for former ORU coaches / assistants

Tough week for former ORU coaches / assistants OSU is bringing in two four star recruits and the Boone twins from Tulsa Memorial. Then again, they brought in a lot of highly rated players this season and that didn't work out too well. More about fit and chemistry than rankings and potential. Getting the most out of a depleted roster, with a great recruiting class on the way. His future is quite secure. As for Scott Sutton? Absolutely no clue. ORU82
Saul Phillips is nonrenewed at Ohio. Their AD, Jim Schaus made the announcement this morning. Phillips was in the final year of his 5 year contract.

ORUalum
Some prominent names out in the last few days... Bryce Drew at Vandy Avery Johnson at Bama Phil Martelli at St Joe's Mike Dunleavy at Tulane
Old Titan
I really thought Bryce Drew would do better than that at Vandy, same for Avery Johnson at Alabama, but as the first day of NCAA play proved: winning in the SEC is tough. Lots of impressive players on those rosters!

theeagleman5
Bryce Drew lost his best player early in the season to a knee injury and they were 4-0 when he got hurt....5-23 after....he has a big money contract....seems like Drew could have gotten another year but TheEagleman isn't on the inside at Vandy.....as for St. Joe's....Phil Martelli let go after 24 seasons as head coach and 34 on staff....while a change was probably called for....the situation was handled very badly by the new AD who comes in and cans (Scott Sutton style) a long time very popular coach who always did things the right way....Martelli won 28 games as recently as 2016....granted he had 3 losing seasons in a row but after 34 years as a loyal employee he deserved more than getting called into the AD's office on Monday morning and told he was fired....brutal.....Martelli is very visible in the Philly community and an all around good guy....loved by his players, the media and a real family man.....they should have given him a year to make his final go round like Temple did for Fran Dunphy....Martelli deserved better even though he will get paid thru 2022 as his contract called for...so he's not destitute.........but this is college sports today....it's all about the $$$...even at a small Catholic University like St. Josephs.....very sad..... Old Titan
Some pretty nice jobs coming open today: Tim Miles out at Nebraska, plus Mike Anderson at Arkansas. Jobs that 10 years ago would have included ORU head coach Scott Sutton as a possible candidate, following another 20+ win season and postseason appearance by the Golden Eagles. Oh, how times change, for both the coach AND the program...

ORUalum
Strike while the iron is hot. I bet Sutton still regrets not parlaying the Tutt/Green success to a step up the coaching ladder. Would SDSU give Saul Phillips a look? 1
