Worst hammering we have taken in years.  It was a 20-3 beat down we received in Norman tonight.

What is going on with this team....

The general decline in ORUathletics is finally hitting baseball.

I can't remember a team this bad.  Maybe worst since the Barker teams, but he was building back after NAIA and before Golloway

ORU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and it was all down hill from there.....Varnell and Michaels couldn't get anybody out and gave up 15 runs combined...only McCutchin pitched decently but by then we were down by 18.....a really embarrassing performance by the Good Guys....thankfully Fort Wayne comes to JLJ this weekend and ORU should be able to get back on the winning side....although this year it seems like we should assume nothing.....it's very disheartening......:-(

The pitching is the real issue this season. I wonder how long Wes Davis will last in that role. Probably not long if things don't turn around soon.

Then again, with the way our athletic department is run....

  • They have 6 D1 bats in the lineup --- Roark, Hernandez, Cummings, Henson, Rotola, and Keizor
  • The 7 thru 9 hole hitters can't even bat Mendoza (no matter who Folmar plugs in there)
  • Folmar continues to play for big innings instead of running on the bases and moving runners over
  • The strikeouts are out of control
  • Despite bringing almost every arm back, not a single retrurner has shown improvement (most have declined)
  • Davis is clearly not anywhere near Snedeker when it comes to managing the arms
  • The coaches refuses to move McMinn off of Friday starts
  • No toughness --- let the thermometer go below 50 and the team seems to shut down in the field and at the plate

Having said that, IF the manage to squeak into a regional -- they could actually win a game as 4 seed and get on the winners side of the bracket.  They would have to change their offensive philosophy and play for a low scoring 2-1 type game -- (Ausua for 6, Townsend, Womacks, Stout).  They would probably get rolled the next 2 games, but you never know

McMinn this season has to be one of the worst weekend starters we've had in a long time, let alone a Friday night starter. You have to wonder if McMinn was promised the Friday night in order to convince him to return? Surely Folmar would've moved him out of the Friday night lineup if there wasn't some sort of obligation there. Who knows.
